i know i read this somewhere in another thread but i searched and coundn't find it... my question is when shifting, what is the highest rpm thats safe to shift at 6k,7k,7.5k??whats hurts the tranny

so many varibles i dont even no where to start

Is this on stock trans?
Is this on a built head?
Does this car a small turbo (T-25) that can even hold boost past 5k?
Have you removed the rev limiter?
Is this car daily driven?

I can go on and on the point is your question is to vauge. The 4G63 rev limiter is at 7500 but if you bring it up that high a lot dont plan on having your engine for that long.

yes stock tranny w/ stage 2 clutch thats all i know
no not a rebuild head
yes t-25 15psi (evo3 this summer or t28)
no, rev limiter is still in their
yes driven daily
think 7 is to much, think engine will eventually blow
thanks

I shift between 6.5k rpm, and Im running on T25. I heard somewhere that the T25 reaches its max power at 5.5 but im not sure if its true :(

stay in ur power band as long as possible... u dont need anyone to tell u when to shift ur car, take it out on the road and just feel when the car stops pulling as hard as it should, when it stops accelerating due to the turbo falling off, or just the motor running outta steam, then shift. my car likes to pull its hardest right after the turbo spools all the way and when i'm at about 4200rpm, it likes to die off at about 6500rpm so thats where i try and shift.

Hey, I have an N/T 98 Eclipse....When you are just normal driving do you usually bring it up to 6.5k on like every shift or just when your puttin the pedal to the floor. I usually shift at like 4k when I'm just driving around town, but let it go a little longer if I'm hittin the gas hard(which still doesn't really do much in the GS, but I'm saving for the GSX). Is this similar to what you guys do or considered the correct way? I have heard its bad to rev too high but I've also heard it is bad to shift really early too.

shifting late when ur normal driving just wastes gas is not like its labelled as "bad" for ur car, i mean just driving ur car in general is bad for it. shifting early isnt bad either its just if u do it too early u risk stalling the car cause the rpms are too low, u know how sometimes u go over a speed bump, so u put the clutch in slow down and then after the speed bump u realize ur going too fast to put it into first, but then when u drop it into second the car shakes violently and feels like its about to die.

Ok, thanks. Yeah, I know what you mean about the speed bumps, or even just in heavy traffic. But, so shifting at 4k isn't any worse for the car than shifting at 3k, it just uses up more gas?

In normal driving conditions I shift near 3.5 or 4. Shifting at 6.5 is only when racing :D
