I was wondering what kind of rear speakers will fit in a 2g? My friend bought pioneer 4-way 6x9 speakers for his 2g GSX and when he put them in, they were too big. Basically half of the speaker was sticking out of the hole and chillin outside the bracket. I want to know what kinda speakers would fit nicely in there and sound good. Preferrably 2-way's or more and around $45 or so.

I use Rockford Fosgate 3-ways. Not the HPC series, but the FRC series. They sound excellent. I've owned about 6 diff. pairs now in all my diff. cars and I will continue to use RF speakers. They fit OK. There is about a 1/4" gap all around the speakers because it wont go in all the way because of the depth issue. But they are in and sound good. I would recommend the for any 2G.

I used 6 1/2s, just drilled out new holes. They fit fine. IMO my 6 1/2 bostons blow away any 6 x9s ive ever had. The more circular the speaker, the better the sound :thumb:

i use infinity kappa 6x9s and they sound awesome :thumb: you have to use a spacer though - like 1/2" to 3/4". You can get a generic one, so if your 6x9 is sticking out, you can still mount it correctly.

sometimes they are round, sometimes they are 6x9, if you want to fit the 6x9s in then grab a dremel and cut some plastic there to fit it. i just use the round ones:thumb: if you got more questions or want photos, holla

I'll third the infinity's... I have them too.... they work well and have awesome sound.

Where is the clearence problem with aftermarket 6x9's? Are the aftermarket speakers too deep to fit under the factory speaker grills properly?

The factory mount for 2Gs is unusually shallow, something like 2-3/4". It's how they managed to put such a roomy back seat in there.

I put in 3 way pioneer 6 x 9's, and the problem I had was the screws for the speakers didn't go in all the way, so the speakers were bouncing aaround a little. I used 3M double sided mounting tape to fix the problem.

orion 6.5 coaxails are probably the best sounding you will hear for the price. $100 thats what i run and they will blow away most low end components... actually blow away the cheaper $350 focal components.(not the $1800 set though LOL)

3 way pioneer 6 x 9's was what I was planning on getting. So they'll fit fine under the grill but the screws dont have enough room to bottom out and hold the speaker tight?
