What kind of HP do you think this setup will give me?

My stock turbo went out so its time to upgrade. Right now I have a 2.4L and i'm thinking about getting this setup.

T04B TURBO
T3/T4 MANI
38MM TIAL WG
750 RC INJECTORS

With the rest of the fuel and ems supporting mods. What kind of HP goals do you think I should expect? I want around 400whp if not more and I can get a really good deal on this turbo setup. Any input would be greatly aprectiated. Thx

400+ easy...you can get 400+ off a 50 trim and come close to that with an EvoIII . Of course that setup would work. I'd like a little bigger injectors for room to work with but still.

A good buddy of mine made 457 AWHP on pump gas using a PTE SC6031E (60-1 compressor, T31 turbine) in a .82 a/r T3 turbine housing at 34psi.

The car was rocket-fast, however at that pressure the turbo was a time bomb....it blew four times in a row with under 1200 miles each time; the last being catastrophic. I'm not sure if the excessive boost is what killed it, or if it was because it was a piece of Precision garbage. Perhaps a real Garrett turbo would be more reliable?

what was the lag like on that 60-1 setup?

The car's a '95 GSX with a fully built 6-bolt using 9.0:1 Wisecos.

He originally ran that 6031E with a DSM bolt-on turbine housing- it spooled quick but he was only getting 48-49lb/min at 28psi, which is ridiculous. He did some research and decided to go with the .82 a/r turbine housing, which added about 400rpms of lag but the added pull on boost was INSANE. It felt like the car had an additional powerband that wasn't there with the Mitsu manifold and housing in place.

Just by switching to a T3 manifold and turbine housing, his airflow numbers jumped up 10lb/min, so you can see how poorly the DSM bolt-on turbine housing works when used with Garrett turbine wheels.

makes me feel super about the pte 50 trim i just bought with the mitsu housing :(

He was running a 60-1 with 34psi on pump gas on the dyno???

Im not too worried about the reliability of it Im only using it for a year or so until i get my holset hx35/40 hybrid on the car. Im just trying to get more power for this year than from my evoIII.

Also, Idk just seemed like some wicked pressure to have on pump. Must have been a good tune also though. Did he have alot of other boltons or just the usual stuff?

All three rebuilds I did to his 6031E happened last summer. The rotating parts were balanced, we tried sourcing the oil supply from the filter housing AND the head, even tried running an inline filter and the bastard still died.

You're right, he's a tuning wizard; and Meth Injection can do some amazing stuff, my friend! :shhh:

He's moving on to bigger and more reliable things for 2009 (HX40).

hahah ohhh ok well that makes sense then. Yes Im just installing the meth injection on mine now, cant wait to see the difference.

also, looking at the comp. maps for the 60-1 wasn't 34psi way outside of the range of that turbo?

It's not so much a difference you'll directly feel; but the ability to make 34psi with zero knock on pump gas with 19* of advance just by spraying Windshield Washer Fluid mixed with Heet into your intake manifold at wide-open throttle translates into some serious power on the butt meter.

Sure 34psi was pushing it, but it was still making power. Guys running 28-30psi with 16G's are definitely on the ragged edge as well.

Correct, Im looking to advance timing and get a serious tune with the meth, then have a back up map for pump gas w/o the meth in case of a problem. Having the evo ecu is a dream come true.

Also, yes but if you analyze the map, the flow rating on them is optimal around 2.3 bar or so, which is around 20psi (if we are talking about flow that is). Flow tapers back and in higher boost and completly off the map at 34psi. Some people just seem to push them too far making it worse. (example: too much pressure out of the evoIII blowing hot air doesnt help much)

No, this has nothing to do with that at all. Its getting his car to a certain point using a specific turbo and parts. This has nothing to do with anyone else, other cars, comparing to other cars, etc.

OP sorry for hijacking the thread for a moment, atleast it was about the 60-1 ! :)

bench racing?

Very close to it.

Yeah, but asking about how much horsepower you will get is technically bench racing.

Anyways, you have to take into consideration that in Cali we have 91 octane so you wont get a ton of power out of it. 91 is piss water so if you want to see a lot of power you will need to run either e85, race gas, or meth.

OP be careful because bench racing isn't allowed here.

I dont think having HP goals and asking about a particular turbo setup and the quality of the products is close to bench racing. Of course I guess its interpretation.

Yes, didnt notice you are in cali, pump gas will def. put a burden on your goals. Id look into a meth setup or e85 if readily available in your area (unlike NE PA).

If you plan on going to an e85 I'd go larger. If you can, dont get the 750's and just spend money on a good set of 1000+cc injectors. Then you wont have to worry about it for this setup or pretty much any other upgrade in your future.

I'm not a huge fan of Precision turbos. My scm6031 lasted about 30minutes and they wouldnt cover it by warranty because they said something hit the compressor. Through my new airfilter i guess, too. Possibly look into the holsets, they are very durable with good spool and good power. The 7blade hx35 is 6olb/min as well as 8blade hx40 at 60lb and the 6/7 blades are said to flow about 70lb/min. And well priced
