What kind of clutch should i run?

Don't make the same mistake everybody else seems to. Don't put a 600 hp clutch on your 200 hp engine. Figure out what sort of power level you plan on shooting for (and be realistic), then select your clutch.

Personally, I'm shooting for around 300-350 hp, so the ACT 2100 clutch was my choice. But everybody has their own opinion.

Also, I would suggest going with a clutch to the short side of your target. If you want 400 hp, I would still go with the 2100, because going with the 2600+ puts undo stress and strain on your clutch actuation system and can cause you other troubles.

And I know you have a 90, but for you 7 bolt guys out there, I'm sure the extra force required to actuate the pressure plate aids in crankwalk. At any rate, I suggest going with as light of a pressure plate as you can get away with for a number of reasons.

Good luck :thumb:

as far as driving or recommendation, what is the difference between the 6 disc and street disc. Should i get either one or one over the other???? thanks

i bought the Slow Boy Racing 3500 kit and love it! take a look. its like 500$ with fluids and a ss line.

I would never recommend a 2100 for an AWD. I just don't think it would last long.

I have a 97 FWD making just about 300hp to the wheels. I don't launch it much, I don't drive it much, and I don't take it top the track. I have a 2100 in there with not that many miles on it, may be 12 to 18 k. The clutch will slip, in 1st and 2nd if I get on it hard. This car needs a 2600.

On my 92 AWD, I have been running the 2600 with out a problem. It has plenty of grab....it never feels liek it is going to slip. I launch this thing quite a bit. I slip the clutch all the time. It definitely holds up to the abuse. The 2100 would be shot in no time.

You have the remember the extra traction and strain an AWD can put on a clutch. The 2100 is just way to wimpy.

I have a 2600 and am happy with it, but I did have to replace the clutch master cylinder shortly after installing the clutch.

I just purchased the Spec Stage 3 6 puck Modular clutch from horsepowerfreaks.com, it was a lil over 400 i think.

With the 2600, you can tach that thing to 4500 and slip it without ever having to worry about it. Make sure not to dump it though, as you will definitely (sp?) break something.

I have over 15k on my 2100 on a chrome moly flywheel (I expect it would slip more on a chrome moly steel than a stock carbon steel flywheel), and I haven't lost much travel at all. I expect it will last 50k+, and I drive pretty hard. As long as you aren't driving like a moron, not clutch dumping or slipping it too much, your fine with a 2100...

I have probably about 250hp at the wheels on my AWD...No slipping at all...Plus, what do you want to be your weak link? Your clutch, or your axles? Maybe your driveshaft? I prefer the clutch.

I went with the sbr3500 so far so good but only about 300 miles on it. I drive it 80 miles round trip to work everyday and feels better than the 2600 I had. Especially in heavy traffic. Worth a look in my opinion. :dsm:

I want to thank everyone that has posted. My thoughts are going with the ACT 2100. I would like for my clutch to give first before tranny and axles. I am mostly concerned about slipping. I plan on getting on it out of the hole sometimes and thats just when I can get to the track. Its hard for me to look at about the hp rating I will be running as this is my first DSM to really know what clutch I need to run with my setup. Some friends of mine said I would not go wrong with the ACT 2100 and still it would hold up with my mods. At the time being I dont see myself putting anything else on the car and if I decide to its going to be minor stuff as a super AFC or something of that nature. Any opinions?

ACT2100 will take you into the 11's per Buschur. I have had the 2100 for 20k miles with no issues in a sub 13 sec car. :thumb:

Well,

The 2100 just feels too light for me. The 2600 can be driven smoothly, will launch better, and will hold more power.

On a FWD 2100 is probably the better choice for most. On an AWD, I feel the 2600 is a way better choice.

Maybe conside a clutch in the middle. You will have to do some research....but I have heard some say the CM 2500 is decent.

I had a 2600 but didnt install it .I don't like higher pedal pressure and stil hear they can chatter sometimes.I also don't want added strain on my clutch fork especially since it looks like I got ripped off by Taboo Speed on my fork ordered six months ago.. :notgood:

So just use oem fork.I went with an sbr 3500 and hope to have it in soon.I do plan on some big power and might go up to their hd 4000 but see how this 3500 handles it.The 2100 looks ok for pretty mildly modded cars.

Whats up... I got a 420a and have just recently put a turbo on. I was goin with the 4g63 swap and found out it would have been a lot of work and i wouldnt be pushing as much as i am now. Im looking for a clutch right now and im not sure what kind to put on my 420a. If any of yall could help me out i would appreciate it. Thanks :dsm:
Levi

i have a centerforce dual friction in my 4g63 i <3 it the pedle pressure is so much less than the act 2100 that i had in it before i've had bad luck w/ act so anything besides them i'd recommend but DSM's seem to be a fan of the ACT brand :notgood:

i also have had bad experience with act 2900lbs! i recently did a rebuild on my engine, when i took out the center thrust bearing it was worn very badly on the side that the pressure plate applies force to! i am going with something that has a less peddle pressure and more clamping pressure! remind you i have a 6 bolt engine :shhh:

Thanks guys... anyone out there that has the 420a in there car? if so what kind of clutch are yall running and do u like it? I just recently blew my bottom end and have purchased JE pistons, rings, new crank etc.. I was wondering what stage that everyone is runnin too with there 420a. I have been trying to look around but all i can ever find anyone talking about is the 4g63. I have also heard that instead of gettin another flywheel you can just resurface your old one.. is that good and will it hold up to the boost? im only gonna be running anywhere from 15-18 pounds. Holla at me if yall can help..I need it!!! thanks :thumb:

felt REALLY heavy the first couple of days, hard to get use to the way it sprung out. But it is starting to feel lighter and lighter everyday and im getting used to where it catched. I do love how quickly it grabs the gears.
