What kind of CLUTCH is this? And should I buy it?

Looks like an ACT, which usually have yellow pressure plates. As for the disc its a solid 6 puck disc. How much does he want for it and how many miles are on it? I would not recommend using this clutch unless its track only car. With that disc is going to have alot of drivetrain noise and it will wear out your transmission faster.

100 for both, not sure on miles.

Just searched up extremepsi, 6 puck was right but what kind of setup?

There is custom extreme, maxx treme, extreme, heavy duty, etc.

I would never recommend going the through the trouble of removing the trans on an AWD for a used clutch.

I also wouldn't recommend a 6 puck ACT clutch on a daily driven car that doesn't need that kind of grab. To each his own though.

I would just get a new 2100 OR 2600 pressure plate, and a new ACT Street disc (not 6-puck).

FYI the 2100 is rated for like ~330 ft/lbs of torque. It is what i am running and i LOVE IT! It has a stock feel to the pedal, the 2600 pressure plate has a very noticeably heavier petal feel.

Also, if funds permit, think about getting a lightened flywheel, they rev really quickly. If not, get the stock one resurfaced, of course.

Also, if you get the 2600 you have to make sure to shim the pivot ball, or you may end up using the extended slave rod, which is a band-aid.

Sorry if this seems obvious, but just wanted to make sure its known.

EDIT: Also, make sure to use a stock 2g throw out bearing, and shop around for the clutch. I got mine for $300 plus shipping off eBay.

How many of you have driven the act 2600/6 puck combo? im guessing none, I say this because I just installed a 2600/6puck combo on a local guys 1g, the clutch feels almost the same as a street disk 2600 setup, the only difference being a mild chatter when slipping the clutch when it gets hot. thats it. as long as the friction surface is mostly intact on the disk, you can resurface the pressure plate if it looks bad (hot spots, warped etc..) it would be retarded to spend the cash on a new pressure plate and disk if this one is in decent shape.

Um, i have driven my friends 99 gsx with a 2600, and i have driven a 2002 WRX with 2600 and 6-puck. The grabbyness of the 6-puck puts more strain on the transmission, thats why i would opt for a street disc. Also, the street disc is more easy when taking off, and during those long days in traffic.

There are just some parts i wouldn't buy used, clutch being one of them.

I am guessing you meant resurface the hot spots out of the flywheel right? Not pressure plate.:thumb: I dont think resurfacing a pressure plate would be very fun...

"Retarded" would be having to drop the transmission again because you didn't do it right the first time. Which would cost more than a new ACT clutch, unless you do it yourself.

I read up on the Act 2600 and SBR Kevlar disc combo. I was going to flip the disc for some xtra cash. I'm really just leaning towards the pressure plate, and for a 100 for both doesn't seem like a bad deal.

Any more opinions on EXPERINCED ppl with act.

That sounds like a good plan, i wouldn't mind reusing a pressure plate. Get a nice disc and you're all set.

Any thoughts on a lightened flywheel?

no, i meant pressure plate, it can be resurfaced as well :sneaky: im happy that you drove 2 different cars, with 2 different clutches. congrats. ive had a street disk in my dsm, and a twindisk, and driven 4 puck dsm's, and 6 puck dsm's like stated in my last post, its basically the same mannered clutch, same to slip and everything inbetween, excluding minor chadder when the clutch gets hot.

i ran that setup for about 2 months and i street drove the car. wasnt that much fun. it grabed when it needed to but for daily driving was a pain i ended up going with a twin disk. The act clutchs are nice but i dont like that extra strain on the syncros. and as stated above i wouldnt drop the transmission for this clutch. i would offer him 50 for the presure plate and go buy a new street disk. what are your power goals ?

If you don't know the miles on it, how it was broken in, how many times it was launched on I would pass on it. Yes it might be only $100 but it will cost you more if you put it in and it will give out on you. You might also have to resurface that pressure plate. I would also stay away from an unsprung disk unless you really need it. Do it right the first time and save in the long run.

Alright, well silver if you plan to get the pressure plate resurfaced make sure you take into account to re-check the step height, it will change. Sorry for questioning you Dsmx17, i just figured you were talking about the flywheel. I kind of judged it from your lack of filling out your profile, and number of posts (not that i have many).

Im sure you have many goodies to put in your profile, you should get started on that.

And MANY people agree that pucks and discs are very different...

no harm no foul, i dont post on tuners alot, just kinda bored, so im trouble shooting forums. LOL. im the "stock block king" 603whp stock block guy, i think my buddy posted my dyno and most mods on here a year or so ago.

didnt mean to get a shitty tone, kinda in a bad mood when i get bored, might come off as a been there done that attitude, sadly because i have, haha.

they are different, just not nearly as bad as people assume, especially with the act ones, the otehr pucked clutchs i drove were harsher, but the act was literally like the street disk.

I will see if he will sell just the Pressure plate, I appreciate everyones concern and feedback. Saved me some money. I haven't found anyone selling just a pressure plate with few miles on it.

$100 is a steal for the pp and disk, buy both and hold onto the disk incase you ever wanna try it. IMO clutchs arent a big job, assuming you have all the parts/fluids they take around 3.5 hours from start to finish if you take your time with beer breaks, LOL
