Also, while i'm at it......
what the hell is this thing?

Green arrow: goes to fuel pressure regulator (i'm pretty sure)
Blue arrow: goes into my intake manifold (i have a cyclone intake)
White arrow: i dont have a F-ing clue where that one goes.

any insight on what this thinger is would be great! thanks guys!

That's what I was thinking too. It's in the same place as where I hooked up my boost gauge on my 1G.

Check this out: http://www.myzero.com/gauges/boost.html and read it then click on the link for the diagram. I think it's the same thing.

raise the roof! :thumb: i guess that makes sense now.... and i was wondering what the black thing was, but as i read the link posted( thank you for that by the way!) it says it's the fuel pressure solenoid. so everything is peachy.

what about that sensor looking thing in the first picture? i still have no clue what it is. thanks guys!

if it's a resistor, what is it a resistor to? it only has 1 wire hooked up to it . why would there just be a resistor dangling around under my intake?
thanks again! :thumb:

I don't know if this is anything, but what is that connector I circled in the pic?

i dont have a clue what that connector is either..... i think it might be for a EGR solenoid or EVAP or something like that. like i said, it's got a 1g engine in it..... there's another connector on the other side of my engine that isn't hooked up to anything either. thanks!:thumb:

Something you might be able to do is get ahold of the wiring diagrams for a 1G.

It connects to the knock sensor, doesn't it?

Thank you guys sooo much! i know my "dangler" isn't a huge deal but you answerd my question better than i could have ever imagined! for what it's worth thank you! if any of you lived close to me i would definetly buy you a beer!:thumb:

thanks again! Matt

Actually, it may have been a bigger deal than you think! :)

If I'm right and it is connected to your knock sensor, it may have not been working. Connecting that back up could very well save your engine sometime.

I know this thread has been dead for a while but I thought I would provide the answer for anyone who finds this. The metal "dangler" is actually a capacitor/condensor. It is for supressing the RFI(Radio Frequency Interference) that is emitted from the ignition system. This stray RFI can enter signals from many other sensors and drastically affect their performance. For example it can be induced into your crank sensor signal if it is close to the wiring and the ECU might think that you are at 7000 rpm when you are really at idle. Imagine how bad that would mess up your idle.
You should have it connected to a metal surface that has a good connection to battery negative, such as its original location against the intake manifold.

I'm almost positive that the "dangler" only came on '90 DSMs...and your tach won't work if it's not plugged in...oops :coy:

That is correct. for anyone who doesn't believe him, and as he stated they are used all over the car to cut down on interference, and make a constant signal. these are used in stereo systems to cut out engine noise, or any electrical interference.

id get that put back on soon.
