I'm not sure if this is some sort of drop in cover that goes over the top of the strut , or if they come with our cars, and I just don't have them. They are the gold colored "inserts?" that are pictured here.

Isn't that the actual strut? I've seen them in different colors depending on the brand/make?

And wow, you found a pic of a 2g with the DC Sports strut bar. Not too many have that. Great picture to show it.

Nice solid design, not one of those adjustable crap ebay ones.
 
Those look like the upper strut mounts.. a lot of coilovers will replace the upper mount. The owner may have just gotten them powdercoated.
