That is part of the balance belt assembly. Im not sure what is behind that piece though.

It was your balance shaft belt . You have 2 balance shafts . I believe they are to reduce engine vibration .

Since the belt was broken, did it do any damage to the motor?

Thank god i decided to change the timing belt before it went then.

Go to vfaq.com . Click engine . You will see timing belt section for a 1g . Everything you need to know and buy . :thumb:

Get a service manual noob! :p

seriously.
Haha i have one, infact i have both the haynes repair manual and service manual. But i was too lazy to check them. I figure hey, why not come on dsm tuners and ask since i know you guys have no lives and are browsing the forums 24/7 :p

I should warn you for wasting internet(s) space. :nono: :D

Is the timing belt still on?

Nope i got it off. I'm changing everything as we speak.

You should have check the timing marks before removal, a broken BS belt can still cause jumped tooth without taking it out. If the head is off, check all the valves for possible damage.

Clean that oil off too and change whatever is leaking oil all over. That will destroy your belt faster than anything else.
