I am thinking about swapping a 1G engine in my 2G. My 2G engine is basically out. I have been looking at this

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...d=1,1&item=8007170142&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT

Just a few questions.

1. Is this worth it? I live close to where these guys are and could drive there. Is this basically high priced? I have been looking for a while and this seems the best I can find so far.

2. Is there anything else I need to purchase that I cannot use from my 2G engine? I know I need a flywheel. Anything else though, intake manifold, etc.? What type of gasket set should I get. Not the whole set because the longblock has already got new gaskets, but what from then on. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Everyone on here has always been a great help. Any suggestions, comments, reviews, remarks(not sarcastic) I thank you in advance for. Thanks again, --Christian--

There is quite a bit that you need. 6 bolt Water Pipe ,6 bolt thermostat housing, 6 bolt water outlet, 6 bolt water line (filter to water pipe), 6 bolt turbo water lines, 6 bolt oil filter housing 6 bolt oil pan 6 bolt oil pick up 6 bolt cam angle sensor (will need rewired) 6 bolt rear main seal 6 bolt timing belt tension arm 1g Intake Manifold (used) 1g Coil Pack 6 bolt timing belt cover 6 bolt water pump 6 bolt flywheel 6 bolt front cover 6 bolt timing tensioner 6 bolt trigger plate 7 bolt front motor mount (needs modified) 2g counter weight on the shifter (needs cut off)
There are probably thousands of posts about this swap on this website. I maybe missing a few things, correct me if I am wrong.

P.S the kid ahead of me knows nothing and is useless...LOL :p

Just kidding Joe

Would it be worth trying to swap in a 1G for 1150.00 and buying the parts separtely that I will need knowing that I can sell some of my parts of my 2G. Or should I just buy I rebuilt 2G for 1700.00 and swap everything. Is it worth the hastle for the 1G. Please and thank you again.

The swap itself is not bad at all. If I were you I would look at what your plans are? Building a monster or keeping the car for a long while and plan to do some mods and put on miles?, I would get a nice 6 bolt and just do the swap. Junk yards can help with some things but even if you put another 7 bolt in I would do a new clutch and water pump and that right away, if they don't come with the motor.

There are a couple of routes to take:
1. Find a decently priced used lower mileaged 6 bolt with most of the parts needed still on it. This could be a cyclone motor, but I would use a stock intake manifold not the cyclone. Pic up the other odds and ends you need, also I would do a new waterpump, belts, clutch, flywheel, etc, right away while the motor is out.

2. Find a cheap turbo 1g with a blown motor or rearend or something to make it cheap and then take what you need and part the rest. (A few months ago I picked up a 91 TSi for 400 bucks with blown hg, not bad in my book.)

3. If you have major plans for it, buy a new built 6 bolt and then do the swap. Slowboy racing has a kit you can buy that has pretty much everything needed.

4. What you can afford and want to do. Also what are your abilities mechanically?

After eyes bleeding of search after search. I think a rebuilt 7 bolt will be the cheapest and easiest. It has been modified a good amount, but I plan on keeping it for 6 months to a year and then maybe getting an Evolution IX or such. Thank you for the last reply, very informative. Time and money, I do not have or else I would do a 6 bolt swap. Thank you for all the replies!!!
