What is going on with my car. dsmlinklog. knock

1990 tsi awd. injen intake. fmic, exhaust, 14b waste gate pressure, evo9 fp rewired, deka 550cc injectors. I can't figure out my problems with this car. Always hits knock, and pulls timing like crazy. I haven't drove it much, and I just wanted to make a log to give you guys some idea. I haven't been able to get it to idle right since I first fired it up. Always sputtering even when it was completely stock.

Are you running the stock compression ratio?if you through a set of 9 to one pistons in it you will have to go with the 2g timing map.And are you running 87 octane?

Yes I have the stock 7.8:1 pistons in it. I'm also running straight 93 octane right now. I was thinking it could possibly be the mass airflow sensor, but then again it could be anything.

I have the same idle issue as you and also my afrest spikes up like yours.I have tried 2 other maf and it never fix it.
Does your motor have alot of blow by?Do you have the hose from the valve cover still hooked up to the intake just after the maf?If your pushing oil into the intake it could be more prone to detonate.

To get your idle right, you should be logging combinedFT, and it looks like your injectors are setup for 600cc not 550s. As far as the knock goes what plugs do you have in your car? If stock upgrade to a step colder. If your still getting knock log a pull and retard your timing where its needed. Right now your timing is untouched.

Jonny: I'm sure I have blow by because my engine has close to 200k miles. I have the line that originally runs to the intake ran to a catch can with a breather.
xezerax: How long do I need to drive around to get a comb ft? I can only drive around my house safely. I don't have insurance on the car right now. Plus I'm a newb when it comes to tuning. About the injectors, I am kind of confused. If the injectors are actually rated at 599cc at 43.5psi. would they be 553 at 37psi, and 593 at 42.5? I'm running the ngk plugs that everyone recommends on here. I haven't messed with my timing because I figured the problem lies somewhere else.

I'm gonna get my injectors right and start logging comb ft. I guess ill see if I can get it running better. I had the same symptoms when it was completely stock. Not saying much though, as I don't have that many upgrades. I plan on restoring this car down to every bolt, and nut. I just have to get through college first.
