I've posted this a couple of times but now I have figure out something is wrong. I have a 92 eagle talon 5sp awd turbo. I just figured out that my 1st,3rd,and 5th gear goes in gear fine at high rpms. Only my 2nd, 4th, and Reverse won't go into gear unless I lower the RPM. The odd thing is that ALL gears going upwards (1,3, and 5) goes in fine. Only the DOWN gears (2,4,and R) have trouble going into gear. The weird thing is that it doesn't grind on 2nd, 4rth, and Reverse but it feels like its not engaged (The stick shows it in gear but the engine just revs). I pop it out to neutral and back into any DOWN gear and as the engine RPM lowers, I can feel the clutch engaging. Man, I might have to make a vid of this and show it to you guys. My slave and clutch pedal looks fine. No leaks and the reservoir is full. Help?

hmm, my tranny did this too, right before my shift fork broke but it was my 2nd and 3rd gear. the gears your having problems with dont all share anything. Have you checked your shift cables and adjustments? You can adjust the cables on a 1g inside the car underneath the shift boot/center console, there is also a 2-piece bracket the cables are attached to on the tranny that also has a small bit of adjustment. If the cables/bracket are fine then it try checking your gear oil level and also see how much metal is in it so you can have a better idea if its a serious internal problem or not.

Ill check tomorrow morning. I sure hope it is the cables. If not, Damn.....:banghead:

Adjust the cable at the shifter base that controls the front to back movement.

Is that underneath the shifter boot?

This also happened to me in my 2g. It turns out the little shifter pieces on the tranny(i dont know what theyre called) were hitting my upper IC piping. So I adjusted my IC piping a little and it works fine now. It may sound stupid but sometimes its the dumb things like that that people dont check. It could be that. I mean what do you have to lose by checking it? 5 seconds of your time?
