heres the rundown, i have a 98 gst, my only mods are intake, 3" turboback, and now a greddy type s. I also have a boost guage and the blitz turbo timer that has the boost diplay feature in bar. After i put on the type s, i noticed that i was hitting 16 psi in second, and about 21psi in 3rd on the expressway, my peak boost according to the timer was 1.46 bar. i really have no idea what is going on, or why the boost is spiking so bad. I havent adjusted the type s, and it is in the factory setting. any help would be much appreciated.

1. Make sure you're not venting and the type s is adjusted properly like the above said.

2. Do you have a mbc? If so, where do you have it set? what brand?

3. boost spike = initial spike to a higher psi then settles down to the desired setting.
boost creep = hitting desired setting first then slowly increases with increase in rpm.

Which one of these do you have? We need more info to help. I suspect boost creep due to the 3" exhaust but only you know for sure.

4. Perform a REAL boost leak test.

Good luck.

ok
1. i am not venting, i am recirculating, and everything is good and tight.

2.i do not have an MBC.

3.as of right now the boost is at about 16 in every gear, except for 2nd, it likes to hit 20psi, as the rpm's increase. i personally thought it was merely spool up, but now am starting to think it may be boost creep.

4.i have not performed a boost leak test, but i dont think i have one.

i hope that info helps a little, im just starting to worry about things, and would like to destroy my motor. I also tried to adjust the greddy type s, and i think i have it in the correct setting. Thanks

You 're welcome. Does sound like a boost creep but I'm puzzled as to why only in 2nd gear? I would suggest getting a mbc and see if you can control it a little better. If not, porting of the turbine inlet and wastegate area may be needed.

Ive talked to a few friends and im thinking its just creeping, i just wonder about the 2nd gear only thing too, im going to getan mbc soon, but i dont know if that would matter, after all it only controls the boost. If the wastegate needs to be ported it may not matter anyway.

no, the car is a 5 speed. And on a side note, its not just happening in 2nd, it does it in third too, i just must not have hammered hard enough the first time. Im sure it is boost creep, and thats the way i will treat the situation. Not to mention occasionally it creeps up to 20 on wot, but sometimes at half throttle it tends to drop. I really dont know what the deal is, seems strange to me.

You are assuming you only have one problem, a lot of times problems overlaps each other and remains hidden until one of the problems is solved. This is what I would do if it was my car.

1. Get a mbc. The factory bcs is a bleeder type valve, it regulates boost by creating a boost leak.

2. Perform a complete boost leak test, I've yet to find one person who has no leaks after work done to the intake trac.

3. Port area (as much and you can) on top of the wastegate entrance in the turbine inlet to expose the path, the area behind door to allow it to open more, match the o2 side, knock out the divider at the re-entry.

I know it's more work but it's your car, treat it well. :)

yeah, i appreciate all the help, im am looking into getting an mbc, and im going to try a few things and see what hapens, thanks alot.
