So I started taking things apart while I was looking for the exhaust leak that was stealing my power and I notice several problems with the external wastegate.
It's a 20g td06 t3hotside turbo and an F41 external wastegate.
First I noticed the bolts for the turbo to header were ALL loose except for maybe one that I haven't been able to get a wrench on yet. One spot was missing a bolt all together, one of the nuts were so loose I took it off with my fingers, and the third is so loose I can look at it and see that it's not threaded flush with the turbo. I assume it's very possible that the gasket is trashed? I didn't want to take everything apart but it's looking as though I might have to at this point.
I have a couple issues with the wastegate I emailed the tech guys at TiALSport.com and I was told a couple things that are wrong. He said he would get a new valve seat and have the flange repaired. He also told me there is no gasket there so I wasn't missing a gasket like I had thought. The manifold/inlet adapter flange needs repaired but it doesn't seem to fit so I'll probably try to replace it. Also, the whole assembly does not go tight to the manifold. After tightening I could still grab it with my hand and move it slightly back and forth on the manifold. The tech guy told me to get a new Vband though I'm not sure what that will change if the band is fine but the connection doesn't seem to match. Or maybe he gave me a part number for a different band I'm not sure. I don't want to buy the band unless I have to because it's about $40.
I would take advice or recommendations from someone who has dealt with an external wastegate before. Also, how would I go about tightening the bolts for the turbo to manifold? I don't have enough room with everything together should I be able to reach the bolts if I pulled the radiator? I could probably reach most of them from under the car except the one right over the turbo itself. Looks like the only thing that would work there is a wrench if I had the rad fans/radiator out of the way.
