I wanna paint my 02 housing and turbo exhaust side housing. I want to go with a black, but I dont want it to be to chaulky colored. Anyone no of something I can buy that would hold up and not change to much. And what colors do Jet coatings come in. I was gonna get my SBR manifold coated, but wasnt sure if it was only the near chrome coating. Just want my engine to look real clean, and if you guys have pictures of it done that would be great.
Ive seen a exhaust side coated in near chrome but would rather have it black. But I no that sh!t gets hot as all hell, what temps do thores reach?

Dupli-Color makes a 1600*F paint, but im not sure if it really can stand 1600* before flaking and bubbling.

I think a powdercoating would be a better option.

you can get it powdercoated whatever color you want pretty much.

uhh..... powdercoating will not work. the powder gets soft and starts to move around at around 275 degrees!! If you do that, you will waste your money in that you'll just melt the powder off.

This I did not know.

I guess that puts powdercoating out of the question.

Yes I no Powder coating is out of the questions, its a thick soft paint. Ive seen a painted 02 housing before, its was a greenish/brownish color. But I would rather have black.

I tried the Duplicolor Black on my heatshield and valvecover. The valvecover is still shiny (although I need to repaint it due to me scraping it during my last project), but the heatshield turned chalky. I finally got a chance to due the bottom shield too, and just painted it w/ BBQ grill paint, and they matched perfectly.

They make an aluminum color, although I have no experience w/ that one.

not sure if that same stuff will work as well on the 02 housing and exhaust housing. Was it the 1500* engine paint?

I painted my cailpers with 1600F high heat red and they still look great. That paint will only sustain 1600F for a little while. Its made to hit that temp and come down around half that.

go to your local powdercoat shop...yes powdercoat, and tell them you want the high temp coating. I did my heat shield in it, no peeiling after a year of wear when i had it. it was black, it only came in black and grey.

Ive seen a few manifolds painted before, same with the 02 housing. What is the type of paint/coating they put on the exhaust? Engine Blocks etc.

or i also heard they will ceramicoat the inside then do the hi temp powdercoat on the outside. the ceramicoat blocks the heat, and thus being on the inside, keeps the heat from getting to the metal and the powder.

thats what theyre doing now on choppers(biker build off, occ, etc) who want black exhausts, they ceramicoat then powder. it costs alot more but when youre selling a bike for 125k spending 400$ on powdercoating is chump change.

yes, the high temp powder coat will work, but i haven't seen much that stands over 1000 degrees. but i'm sure it's out there

otherwise, Rustoleum has a product line, i think it's called VTE or something similar, that does high temp stuff, and i've seen it hold up well on manifolds. you could try that too. that's my plan, i'll check on the exact name and post again later.

i used normal primer, then 500F black, then 500F clearcoat, at it looks great, and is fine on my exhaust manifold, and my o2 housing

i used the 1500' silver/grey manifold paint from AutoZone on the 02 housing and it came out looking chrome... not was i going for. so i go the 1500' flat black, and sprayed over that silver and then did the manifold too.

the manifold looks PERFECT after 3k miles, however the black started peeling like mad on the 02 where i went over the silver almost immediately. i scuffed up the silver and everything, and figured it would work as a primer... guess not.

but right over bare metal on the manifold worked GREAT!!

(BTW, i sandblasted all pieces prior, no priming, just cleaning)

You could always chrome, thats an option, not the color you want though....

however, if someone DOES want chrome, i suggest the 1500' silver/grey manifold paint from AutoZone, it came out looking chrome to me!!! (that's why i painted over it)

on the heat shields some CLR and scotchbrite pads wotrks exceptionally well

I simply cleaned my housings up (same way) and put the clean shields on them. they still look great. and you can't really see the housings and o2 with the shields on anyway.

i painted my 02 housing silver and exhaust manifold, and turbo housing with that 1600F duplicolor stuff it lasted about a year and then burned off. you want it to look pretty don't drive hard so it gets hot, especially with all the porting i did later it burned off really fast after the the 7cm mod.
