DSM Graveyard - Your #1 Source for Used DSM Parts!

I was going to go with scat or eagles, but I found these and was wondering what people thought of them. Are still as strong as not being machined for a 7 bolt crank? What can they handle? I'm looking for a high 10 second car, and was wondering if these would work?

My buddy dyno'ed his 1g with 1g rods and weisco pistons at 575whp with a 100-shot.

Seriously, you want to use used/machined rods for a 10-second setup because it is cheap. Can it be done? Yes.

Would I do it? No.

Do it right and get parts that are capable of reaching your goals without worries. It really sucks to lose a rod and window a motor because you wanted to use machined stock rods instead of spending ~$200 extra for a decent set of quality forged steel rods that will be capable of handling the power levels that you are looking for.

Your buddy is very lucky that he didn't toss a rod at that kind of power level on stock rods.

I actually can find some forged rods for about the same amount, I was just wondering why no one runs these. I've never heard of anyone using them. I was mainly wondering what the power levels they might be able to hold up to. I know everythings in the tune, but there's also a breaking point for them too. Thanks

You have never heard of anyone using 6-bolt rods with 7-bolt pistons.... Please utilize the search button as this has been done for almost 15 years. They are a bit beefier than a 7-bolt rod, and are machined to fit the larger diameter wrist pin of the 2G and its associated 2G piston (or aftermarket design to fit a 2G). Try looking for 6-bolt rods and 7-bolt pistons, or 1G rods and 2G pistons. There are thousands of people running this as a really cheap and effective setup for up to 450whp or so. Please keep in mind that like any part that is being used at its HP limit (like in your case with your goals), the HP range is exactly that -- a range in which they "usually" hold. There will be some instances of 500-550whp being made without failure, and there will be 300-400whp people with failing rods. It definitely is based around tune, and longevity at that specific power output.

That's not only what these rods are made for. They're also machined to fit a 7 bolt crank. Of course I know about the 1g rod/2g piston combo...

I was wondering what people thought of them being machined to the 7 bolt crank and if anyone has tried these.

Thanks

Same thing. It is just machinework. You are still going to be dealing with a rod that has had machinework to a hardened surface. People have been using them in 7-bolts for years also.

not that i would use that for a 10 second car but i have yet to see a 1g rod fail due to too much power. I have seen it fail as a result of something else (like not lifting off the gas and missing a gear....ouch)
