Hi Guys!

New to the forums and just picked up a 92 GSX!

Looks to have been modified a bit by the previous owner and I was hoping if you guys, with the aid of a few photos, would be able to help me ascertain what has been done to the car?

Any help would be appreciated.

It seems to me like I have possible a wide band 02 sensor wired in?

As for the connections coming out of the dash, I'm at loss.

Kinda of looks like my aem wideband harness. I could be wrong though.

Definitely an aem wideband harness coming out of the dash. Looks like your stock o2 sensor is fairly new as well.

Unless you have some sort of Engine management system like AEM, (even still I'm not sure you can) the AEM UEGO will not simulate narrowband like the factory O2.

I googled for a couple minutes and the wiring colors, look to match that of the AEM electronic boost gauge. I have the AEM wideband and Boost gauge in my POS DSM so I could take a look tomorrow if you'd like.

Other than that, Engine bay pics, and a few other things will help identify modifications.

I snapped this one as well. Seems to have a connector thats been spliced into an electrical tape concoction.

I'll gladly take some more guys. I really appreciate the helps. There is some clear tubing running around below the dash, which I would assume would be a type of boost line. Dear god do I ever belong in the newbie forums....

Also the car does have ECMLINK V3. Though I have yet to be able to connect

Haha im almost positive this is my old gsx. Are you the guy that bought it off me when you where in town here in El paso, or did you buy it off that guy. It was back in late decemeber when i sold it.

Well I bought it from a guy here in Idaho but it does indeed have Texas Plates on it. Can you give me any info or history on the car?

Haha yup that is my old gsx!. Did the guy you bought it off of fix it, or just hold on to it then resell it?

Anyway thats just the stock o2 sensor on the the turbo. The wiring is just routed through the other side of the engine. I had the harness apart around mid firewall area to replace the injector pigtails. Also replaced the pins on the harness that go into the ecu for the injectors and coil as they were loose and kept going out. Also the hole in the dash speaker is for an aem wideband i had in it. I removed the sensor and gauge for it but left the wiring in it. there is a bung welded onto the downpipe right in front of the oil pan for where the wideband sensor went. The clear tube under the dash is for a boost gauge and should be t'd into where the fuel pressure regulator gets its source from the manifold. Those are magnacore wires. Also its got link v2.5 on it.

I sold it with a bad rod bearing on the bottom end. That needed to be fixed, as well as the rod either machined or replaced as the big end was out of round, and the crank journal for that rod needed to be cut. Gave the guy a spare crank for it that was in good condition.

The turbo has a new oring on the compressor housing as the original one was leaking.

Oh and the wideband power source is wired, well should be wired into the power wire for the radio.

It should be boost leak free besides the throttle body shaft seals.

Timing components haven't been changed so those will need to be replaced.

Its got a stock fuel pump, but does has a rewire done to it.

I replaced the fluids in the rear diff and probably had around 10-15k on it when i sold it.

I had a fwd slave cylinder on it. the transmisison on it when i sold it, 1st would grind some if you didn't wait until you were almost completely stopped to shift. Bad syncro. Also there was a good chunk of the bell housing missing. Also gave the guy a spare bad tranny that had a good bell housing on it so he could fix the housing.

Its also got a 1.8l alternator on it. Never gave me any issues running that tho.

Its got poly bushing for the front control arms.

The switch to disengage the cruise control whenever you press in the clutch went bad as well.

It needs a new valve cover as well because the oil cap leaks oil. I've replaced it with 3 different ones and it kept leaking.

He just resold it. There is an audible knock at around 1800 rpm.

I had planned to either rebuild or replace the engine anyways so that really doesn't bother me a whole lot.

I got it because of the 4bolt axle cups and 6bolt core. Crazy small world that I found you on here. Do you mind me asking which model of AEM wideband so I can try to piece together a replacement setup?

Its the uego. So how much did you pick it up for? Did the give you those spare parts for it? Its cylinder 1 with the rod knock. It spun the bearing. bottom part of the bearing went up to the top. The rod is definitely out of round. I had it apart and tried to sand and polish the crank and replaced the bearing. It only held for about 100 miles before it started knocking again. The head is in pretty good shape, but could probably use new valve seals. Its also got a 2g exhaust manifold on it.

Picked it up for 500. He is supposedly leaving the state or country or whatever.

Yeah I got the spare parts for it, he told me the spare transmission was good, "as far as he knew" so I am a little less than pleased with him at the moment.

No the spare transmission is bad. It locked up and then broke free, and wound up cracking the middle housing section on it, on the bottom. Also the transfer case suffers from the notorious leak from the end. Theres a writeup on how to fix it.

Yeah, I took that info with a grain of salt.

It is by no means my primary transportation so resurrecting it from its current state is def possible.

Was there a reason you didn't try to tackle the fixes yourself as oppose to switching to an N/T ?

I had the n/t before i got the gsx. But i sold it because i didnt want to put the money into it to fix it. It was going to need machine work on that crank and a new rod. I picked up the crank with the plans of swapping that in and getting a new rod for it so i wouldn't need to get machince work done. But once i priced it out, including new timing components since i didn't know the history of them, i was still looking at around 400 or so. It took me along time to decide to sell it, but i just kind of lost interest in due to the fact parts were hard as hell to find here where im from. I really wanted to continue with my 1.8 and turbo it, and i was spreading myself too thin. So i decided it would be best to just let it go.The guy sounded like he really wanted it and wanted to fix it, so i thought it was going to a good home. Glad it finally found one tho.

It has indeed.

I have about 4k earmarked for it which looks like I will just use for a rebuilt motor and trans just to be safe. With tasteful upgrades of course.

That will get the old guy (yes the car is a guy) moving under his own power again.

Its going transgender, it was was a she when i had it.

Oh yea im pretty sure there is a leak somewhere in the a/c system. As i had to recharge it every summer.

Well i hope you stick around the site, even throw up a build thread for it. Would love to see him brought back to life. You got a pretty good deal on it for 500. Interior was in great shape, and the body was pretty clean too, besides the rust on the back end. Speaking of rust. One of the fuel lines by the tank is pretty rusted and would be wise to replace it. One of them was so bad that i thought if i pressed on it hard enough it would give.
