what did i just pull out of my rear end?

Been trying th diagnose rear end noise that only happens at constant speeds so i drained the rear end and removed 28 ounces or .75 quarts of dirty oil but there was this magnetic gray sludge all over the drain plug magnet, no shavings or shards or peices of metal, and i put them on paper and spread them around and it dried and just stained the paper grey, is this ok, and what gear oil should i refill it with, thanks heres some pics

Thats normal. Your rear end makes noise because the shims for the side gears in the diff/lsd are worn allowing excess play. Also your output shaft, coupler, center diff are worn as well allowing even more play.

Those looks like very small metal shavings but I'm not 100% sure. Redline has a rear end fluid it's heavy weight shock-proof I believe. Heard alot of good things about it
