What could be wrong with my radio?

If I leave my car off for longer than an hour, my car will ask me to input my code, and in turn force me to reset all my preset stations. This happens EVERY time the car is off for longer than an hour. If I turn my car off, come back 20 minutes later, and turn it on, they're still there, and I don't have to enter a code.

Based on basic electrical knowledge, it seems to me it would be a capacitor failing, but thats my guess.

Every time I do shut off my car though, after about 5 seconds, I hear a click somewhere. I don't know what it is or where it's coming from, so I don't know if thats it.

The anti-security thing is built into the radio correct? If so, maybe a capacitor on it's done for, and it's causing this problem. All I know is it's getting very annoying.

The click is usually just the ECU clicking off. That's normal. As for your radio, the only thing I could think to check would be the constant batt power wire in the back. Make sure its not cut or falling out of the harness or anything. Also if the harness has ever been cut and re-connected, make sure the acc power and constant power wires didnt get switched around. If all else fails, run a 16-18gauge fused wire to your battery (or some other +12v connection), cut the constant batt power wire about 3-4 inches from the harness and splice your new wire in. If you no longer have the issue then you know its a problem in the wire, otherwise it must be something boo-foo'ed in the stereo :rocks:

I'll have to try that. And much thanks for the wire thingy. Thats one thing the Haynes manual completly sucks at, hehe.
