What can happen if something gets sucked into your intake?

I was just curious what ALL can happen if you are venting your bov and the intake hole from the recirc. pipe is clogged with a bottle cap, and the bottle cap gets sucked into the intake? What all can happen if this takes place? Will the engine die or the turbo? Would it burn the cap off from the high temperatures?

What type of bottle cap are we talkin' about here, metal or plastic? Either way, it isn't good.

It probably wouldn't make it past the turbo.

If a bottle cap got sucked in, I doubt it would make it past through the blades on the compressor side. In that case, they would probably get chewed up pretty good.

Short answer... no.

How exactly did you plug the bov return tube? Did you stick the bottle cap in the hole and call it a day? Or does the cap wrap around the outside lip of the return tube?

If it did get sucked in, chances are the compressor wheel is the only thing to get messed up. If it made it through that, it would probably get caught up at the intercooler.

How's the car running? Maybe the bottle cap just fell out, rather than being sucked in.

the car is acting perfectly normal.....i have not even heard any weird noises from it... i just stuck my recirc tube back on and acted like it didnt even happened. I dont see how it would have even been sucked in though because the top of the intake dump is hard ass plastic, the cap was really tight in there, could it have been pushed out by some air somehow?

It's possible. I wouldn't worry about it unless you notice any problems.

im just afraid something will happen in the future with it... like in a month ill be driving and all of a sudden the engine blow up or something ya know ....but this is the type of thing where i would notice a problem INSTANTLY wouldnt it? I feel almost like i need to sell the car asap or something

No... if it got sucked in, you'd notice right away.

your forgetting that the engine moves, shakes and gets bumped around. you could have hit a pothole and the cap fell off. There are a million ways the cap could fall off, the most important thing is that the car runs fine .

I'm kinda surprised you didn't notace any weird idle or driving problems the second the cap fell off because your instantly lean at that point.

actually i noticed horrible idle problems the second the cap must have came off. I had to rev to keep the car running, but now its running recirculated.... I LOVE RECIRCULATION no more OPEN AIR!

I would like to re open this thread.
Is there a screen to catch any objects perhaps? I’ve noticed my 01 F350 exhaust smoke is very hot which indicates a high fuel low air flow mixture. Once my father in law were working on the truck and some plastic pieces may have broken off and gotten sucked in thru recirculating port. Any thoughts?
