What can cause a starter relay to blow

My Talon wont start and I don't know why unless the starter relay blew when my Dad hooked up the starter wires wrong and put the hot one and the wrong terminal. We had the starter checked at autozone and its good. Do you think that this could have caused the relay to blow. Ive heard its behind the radio but Im still not sure what it looks like. Im stumped

Check to be sure your are getting 12v through the signal wire at the starter when the key is turned.

to get to the relay, you have to remove the passenger side kick panel and have someone start the car while to hear for it. It's going to be a loud clicking sound.

The starter relay is under the dash on the drivers side. There is also a Theft-Alarm starter relay located under the radio if your car is equiped with anti-theft.

Bad grounds.

This may or may not help you but when my starter relay went out, I needed a quick fix because the relay itself is like 50 dollars or something ridiculous. As a temporary fix, going from the wiring diagram, I just bypassed it. Granted, this isn't safe to do this but it's a quick fix until you can afford to replace the relay.

Be careful when doing this because your clutch pedal position switch will no longer work. This mean you don't have to push your clutch in to start your car, don't blame me if you run into your garage door.

This kind of reminded me that I haven't replaced my relay yet, it's been like three years... I should probably do this while I have my console apart.

Nice JStrateger!! that is a nice quick fix! I had a 1989 Mustang LX 5.0 that had a similar fix on it and i was trying to impress a girl I worked with by attempting to crank my mustang and rev it up a little and was in too big of a hurry and ended up running into a S-10 (Which was another co workers vehicle BTW) and she was so embarrassed that she just turned and walked away like nothing happened.
