what am i smelling!?

hey guys, quick question my exhuast is stinky lately, i almost want to say its oil, but it doesnt look it and ive had other people tell me its exhaust, i recently added a 3 inch catback and straight pipe, is that where the smell is coming from, also, compression is fine, and oil level isnt lowering so im leabing towards exhaust, is this right?

It's exhaust.

Becasue you removed the Cat your exhaust will "smell" more becasue nothing is being trapped by the cat.

Plus as the new muffler heats up you will smell that also. Should be a little less in a few weeks as the muffler is broken in.

try going through a drive through with a leaking flex section on the downpipe.... yuck... not only does it smell but it ticks like a mutha, how embarassing.... oh well just an excuse to buy a better downpipe

irjoshy I know how you feel I took my car to get inspected. And not only are my front 2 bearings messed up but i have a hole in my downpipe. Im goining to get a better one put on. I have noticed the car ticking alot i really started to get scared. So the downpipe is the reason for the ticking?

actually, i just had my lifters replaced and they don't tick, the ticking is however coming from the leaking flex section, i put my head down there and listened, and i think there is something loose in the downpipe maybe.. but the sound is definitely coming from there.

its just an exhaust leak, same thing happens when your manifold cracks, it makes a pretty loud ticking noise. just replace the downpipe and everything will be fine

Yeah when i got my n1 dp on my car smelled real bad, kinda like a old muscle car. I kinda like the smell now, just dont wanna get pulled over for it. Do you get black crap all over the back of your bumper too?

i dont get black soot all over my bumper because my muffler sticks out 2 inches away from it.
the inside of the tip is @#$%in disgusting though, very very filthy

Make sure your exhaust system is tightened correctly. The engine will sound 'differently' with it tightened up right than a little bit loose. It will sound like it's knocking and pinging all over the place if it's too loose. At least this was the way mine was. On my downpipe, one of the nuts was a little loose, so it sounded like a bad pinging when I was on the throttle a bit. It also got a lot better once the engine was fully warmed up.

Yeah I nearly killed myself and my gf one night by driving with the hatch open and sucking in exhaust fumes. The faster I drove to get home the dizzier I got.
