I live in a cold/wet area and every dsm I have ever owned I have had interior condensation problems. Does anybody have any techniques besides the obvious "high heat defroster?" I pull out of the garage and within a few minutes the interior gets all kinds of condensation. Then I park to go in the store and my interior freezes. Does not help that it is 30 below.

No leaks, keep it in the garage but it's below freezing in there too. Thought someone might have a tip or trick.

I have only had condesation after my window got cracked in the winter..

Other than that I have had not problems with moisture...You might want to check your seals, make sure your windows are closed and not leaking..The back seal can get messed up too and let some moisture in, make sure you check that..

This is where you need a working AC system. IN defrost mode, it will suck the moisture out of the air to prevent that. I get that sometimes here too in Indy. No AC, so I ordered some window vents from AutoZone. I just crack the windows a bit while driving, and crank the heat. Stay plenty warm, moisture goes out, and the windows stay clear. Also, leaving it a little cracked allows the interior to cool faster and keeps it from freezing on the glass.

I had this problem with my old '96 Saturn. What setting do you normally leave the heater when you turn it off to go to the store?

I left mine open and my car would freeze within minutes! It would actually be colder inside than outside. I live in RI, so winters here get pretty harsh too.
Plus it rained like a pissing horse in my car! Imagine driving with puddles deep enough to go into your size 15 Timberland boots!

Check the firewall and heater core. Also check your condensor, AC compressor, and everything else relating to heating and cooling. If that heater core is busted, it wont work even when on. Or worse, it barely works!

A good tip is to leave the AC setting always on (Plus that symbol below the controls that looks like air is coming in) and leave the heater on the 1st setting. Then let the car idle for 10-15 minutes.

This gets rid of any excess condensation/moisture in the system, heats the cabin up REALLY fast, and stays heated.

I think what you're experiencing is the extreme temperature difference between the inside of the car and the outside air. Even -30* air can be extremely humid. I've seen this many times where it is cold in my garage and warm outside and I open my garage door and within minutes I have condensation all over everything in my garage. I don't think there is much you can do about this except for a working A/C system, even then I don't know that it'll do much good.

Thanks all for the input. Seals are in really good shape. I will try leaving the heater in the off position when I leave the car outside. I am also going to look into this Damprid you speak of.
