I desoldered my eprom out of my new eprom ecu, and now I need a socket for my eprom chip. Radio shack only had a 40 pin socket. and the other computer store in town had no idea what a socket was. Were do I find a socket, I have only tried one radio shack though.

Also do I need to put back some kind of sealant on the board.

Well thats cool the socket is a 1 dollar and 4.35 to ship. If I did buy from here I think I will buy a few sockets.

Why are the shack's crappy. I was hoping to have the chip in this weekend, as soon as it arrives on hopefully friday.

I will most likely put the chip in and never take it out again, unless I will have a problem.

Is there a closer place to order it from like maybe california, utah?

The radioshack sockets do not hold the pins very well and the chip will walk out of the socket from vibration. The stuff radioshack sells is intended for breadboards and the like, not automotive stuff.

I would suggest getting a ZIF socket from an electronics supply store, just search the net for "ZIF 28 pin socket" I am sure you will find one cause I did. My socket was $6 + $3.50 shipping.

I got a socket from an electronics store, he didnt have the 28 pin but he did have a 32 pin. He said I can just cut it to length. He also gave me some different solder that is low melting point.

I wouldn't use a ZIF socket, My ecu was originally socketed with a ZIF socket and it was nothing but headaches. The socket eventually barely held my dsmlink chip in the sock causing random resets and clicking of my ecu. I finally ended up sending my ecu to Dave with dsmlink.com and he put a new socket in and have had not a problem since. I would contact him and I'm sure he'll send you a socket for a small fee. His email is [email protected] , his customer service is top notch and so was his work. Definitely would recommend him to anyone.
