Well, the unthinkable happened.....car broken into.

Yeah, my 99 Spyder GS Hybrid got broken into night before last. They broke my rear glass and crawled through it to remove my CD player, my XM Commander, some cash, my cell phone, and then they proceeded to pop my trunk and remove my subwoofer with box. All this happened at Mormon church between 7:45am and 8:30 pm. I know the hours because the Bishop parked next to my car, which was perfectly normal when he parked next to it. If they just broke out the back window, do I have to replace the whole entire top or just the glass? If just the glass, is there prices I can find? Sorry, just needed to vent.

As the title states, my Spyder got broken into the ther night, everything stolen and trashed. They entered my car via the rear window on the top. If I wanted to replace it (which who wouldn't) would I have to replace the glass or the complete top assembly? Please help me, if someone knows where I can get either of these parts, please let me know. It has been a rough couple of days.

you have to replace the whole top... most local retailers will charge a butt load $1000 for the top plus install you can find the tops on ebay and other sites for around $375.00 and they usually include a how to video on installation.

I got mine from topsonline.com for $350 shipped. I had a local place put it on for $500.

You might want to ask if the Church's insurance covers such incidents. I know that my homeowner's insurance would cover that type of thing if it was parked in my yard. The church should be more than happy to replace everything, or I would think twice about throwing more $$$$ into the collection plate for awhile.

Incorrect, the rear glass is integrated intot he convertable top. you have to get a whoel top. You can find them new and installed for near 1100 expected. Or yuo can do it yourself for about half.

I love the Quality of the top. I think its great. I dont have the camera right now so no pics, but like was said I think they're all stay fast canvas tops. It rained like crazy here the past 2 days and not one leak (first time in a while since my back window came loose from the top).

I'm still trying to picture someone climbing on top of the trunk lid, and trying to fit through that little ass window into the car... No support from the roof, and they have to climb over the little cargo space for your top when it's down, and over the seat, into the small ass back seat space..

Hmmph, seems like they would have just broken the front window or slit the top and be done with it.. Also, doesn't yours have the little key deal to lock your trunk release button so you NEED a key to get into it.?

He has it, but that doesnt mean he used it. Yeah brad, youd think they wou ldjust slice it and unlock it liek they did mine when they tried to break in. Thank god for full coverage and willint 503 bucks on my BDAY from scratch off ticket or id still have a stitched together roof. IT sucks for your loss man, almsot everyone with a very has had it happen at least once. But try the church they might, but might not since you werent participating in a church event

There is no safe place if it is not locked in a room, and even then it is sometimes questionable.

And I highly doubt the church will want to pay for it. Not to be cynical but, why would they wan't to risk higher insurance rates, when they are not at fault?

Sorry to hear that it happened, I know how it feels, I had a Jeep with a soft top that got cut twice.

True guys, this just sucks the big one!! The last few days have really sucked the big one! I quit my Job on Friday, to move to Boise and start a new life/job. I got most of my bills paid off, got my car running great, and told the girls I have been doing for the last few weeks I am leaving. I already have wired all money to my account in Boise, and now I a stuck here in Pocatello, at my dad's house. My dad is accusing me of doing drugs, since all my money is mysteriously gone (I don't want him to know where it is, I owe him my last car payment). DANGIT!!!! I did talk t the gentleman at Topsonline.com, the guys was soooo coool, he said for an undisclosed amount (I am a dealer) I can get a top shipped to my door by Friday, and I could have it on my car in a couple of days. Yippee, but I still have the one problem.....If my dad kicks me out, I am homeless, since my house is 400 miles away!! What to do, what to do!!!

Actually, smashing the smaller rear window is a very common technique. The thieves(pieces of shit I like to call) break the smaller windows because they make less noise, especially if they cover the window with a towel or a similar material. They then reach, yes reach over and unlock either the drivers side door or passenger door depending on which side they busted. Amazingly I havent heard of any dipshit cutting his upper arm to shit while reaching for the door handle.

I know this through having my ride broken into multiple times in the past as well as many friends cars who suffered the same disappointment.

The funny part - One time some punk broke into my old Prelude and when he/she went to open the door handle they found that it was busted from the inside They had to roll down the window while reaching in to then crawl through the window. I came out and thought two windows were smashed until I pieced it together. I hope the ####s enjoyed the $2 out of the ashtray.

That's because tempered glass crumbles into more-dull bits than plate glass.
If it's set, the 2G DSM alarm will go off if the door is unlocked from the inside. It only disarms when unlocked with a key.
