Weird tweeting noise coming out of engine bay when engine is turned on!?!?!?HELP!!!

There's this strange tweeting noise coming out of the engine bay when the car's turned on. It seems to dissapear after a while. Does anybody know what could be wrong?
The engine also makes a kind of rattling noise right after it's turned on but this rattling noise dissapears after like 2 seconds. Anybody know what the problem could be?

Is it like a bird chirp at startup? If so then its likely your turbo is shot.


The rattling could be alot of things like loose heat shields etc.

yeah it sounds somewhat like a bird but it goes away after a while. The turbo boost properly, I don't think there's a problem with the turbo.

Check the tension on your belts... the rattleing could be the lifters.

Have a mechanic take a peek, there are too many variables to internet-diagnose.

hmmm.....I remember my celica alltrac doing a similar noise but just louder. The idle sprocket was filled with grease and needed to be cleaned. I cleaned it with gasoline and it worked fine after that. Maybe it's the same case with the dsm?
