Weird Tranny issues, Tranny makes a weird noise untill enguaged in gear?

Sup i got a fwd tranny, this started to act up a few months ago, when i start my car it makes a horrible noise like theres metal just floppin around in my transmission, but its weird cause when i put the clutch in it seems to start to fade away, then when i put it in first gear, its completey gone?, also it grinds into 3rd and if i downshift into 2nd it will grind bad also, could this all have to do with my throwout bearing?, should i just get a clutch kit and replace everything since my clutch is already bad? or should i look for a new tranny?

Is there any other issues your tranny is having trouble with? Hard shifting, grinding between shifts, etc?

It very well could be your TOB (Throw Our Bearing). Often, when they get old or get a lot of miles on them, they tend to start making noices when the car is in neutral or the clutch is depressed, then the noise tends to go away as you start moving the car.

I do not know the condition of your clutch, or when the last time it was replaced. However, if has been a while it is easy security to replace it. If it is your TOB and you replace it now, and 2 months down the road your clutch dies on you, you will be kicking yourself in the ass for not replacing it when you had the chance to.

And any new clutch KIT will come w/ a Pressure Plate, Friction Disk, TOB, Alignment tool, and directions. Make sure to have your flywheel resurfaced and stepped correctly to the new clutch.

1. Stop driving it
2. Top off you fluid (to see if it is low)
3. Make sure your clutch is adjusted correctly. Also check your slave.

The reason I say stop driving it is because that's what my transmission did before second gear was no more. Now if you put it into second gear it sounds like something just shattered and fell of the bottom of my car. Good Luck.

well im not going to stop driving my car, it barelly gets any mileage put on it anyways, about 40miles a week tops., but to the other guy that responded first, its hard to shift into all gears except for 4th and 5th seem to go in a little easier, it grinds in 3rd 90% of the time, i know my clutch is shot, i can feel it, hopefully when i move to florida next month when i do my new clutch this will take care of the problem. anyone else or anything anyone has to contribute?
