I dont know why but every day new problems happen to my car (knock on wood) but anyways I think this problem has been there since I bought the car, but it seems as if the noise keeps getting louder and louder. What do you guys think?

First clip: you hear noise at startup

Second clip: noise from inside car and showing my fluctuating idle, could problem relate?

+1 i agree with Anteversion sounds like bendix sticking out

Thanks for the help guys, guess its time to buy a new starter :( More money...LOL

Would that effect that fluctuating idle you see in the second vid? Or dont tell me it another problem cause Ive tried to fix that problem so many times and I still cant figure it out.

my idle fluctuates like that too. I don't think anything of it though.

Ive already changed ISC motor and a bunch of other things that people have told me and nothing has worked yet. Since exhaust is loud you can hear the bum bummmmm bum LOL everytime the idle fluctuates. But it wouldnt hurt nothing right? Car runs fine. As long as it doesnt effect car then I guess it good.

The only thing that worries me about my fluctuating idle is it dying at stoplights.
So if it has never died on you, I wouldn't think to much of it.
(I do need a new ISC though :notgood:)

Yea mine just fluctuates doesnt really die.

Anyway I talked with my uncle and he heard the noise, he is mechanic. He says that it can be the flywheel as well as that true? It does sound as if it was grinding the flywheel. Cause wouldnt the starter just die since its been like this for a long time (noise just gets louder as time goes on)

Hmm I really dont know if the timing is correct, I havnt done timing job either I bought the car stock with 90k miles and timing belt looks good so they must of changed it when it was due.

But in the first vid everyone states its the starter, I also read a thread in which people pointed out how to know if your starter is messed up and it sounds just like it as well.

like i've said, its your starter, bendix probably filled with dirt and clutch residues accumulated from times. mine was doing like this and just putted a new one last year, no more noises and everything just fine.

ok thats good. One last thing though, does it matter what brand I get?

I checked at advanced and they have one called worldwide and it like 69 bucks. And my uncle can get a bosch for 80 something bucks. It dont matter does it? Thanks again.

hey guys I just had a question, I never installed new starter yet, noise is like fading away so I didnt bother changing it, but one thing I dont get is if it was the starter, why would it make the same noise when I turn off the car????

I thought bendix doesnt operate when car is turned off?

Couldnt it also be a cracked flywheel?

NO, starter won't make that noise while you are turning the car off. Bendix who are not working properly are even retracting after a really short amount of time right after the start up cause if they won't, you will heard something really loud and strange and then. never never start anymore with this starter. think about it... starter motor have max rev limits to about 5-8k rpm and this is on no load specs. BUT, if the bendix stay engaged wile you engine is running, it will max the starter rpm so much that the bearing and the starter itself will be desintegrated. the ring gear of you flywheel is so big and the bendix gear so small it could even take him to spin at like 100 000 rpm
