Weird At Idle

Well, i this past weekend i got my timing belt replace, fuel filter, valve cover gasket, water pump, and a 3" downpipe put on. The problem is at idle my vac. is reading around 10-14 and it sounds like the car is studdering, sometimes it studders so much to make the new downpipe raddle. Also today i noticed when i was driving and stopped at a stop light my oil light blinked for a few seconds. Im taking my car back to where i got it fixed at and the guy who fixes my car is a nice guy and i trust him. I was just wondering what you guys think it would be. Thx in advance.

Sounds like the timing belt is off a tooth or two.. Mine did the same when the ex cam was off one tooth, but I didnt have any oil pressure issues. I would say that is something differant like bad connection on the oil pressure sensor.

I agree with the person above. I've done probably a total of 15 timing belt jobs on multiple DSMs and if the cams are off even by one tooth the car will misfire like crazy at idle. But there may be other causes. Fault wires or spark plugs, boost leak, power transistor, or coil pack may be to blame. However if the car was idling fine BEFORE all these additions to the car, then the mechanic probably just botched the timing belt. Tell him to check and see if the timing is still DEAD accurate.

Yea it idled fine b4 except sometimes in the winter which is expected. I think i figured out why the oil light comes on. Sometimes the car gets really close to stalling and that is the only time the oil light comes on, I think it is because when the engine is off and the power is turned on it shows that all the lights are working. So when it is really close to stalling the light comes on. Im sorry if that doesnt make any sense.

yeah I think if the car gets close to stalling (like 300 rpms or below) the oil light may come on due to the low oil pressure (the oil pump will be spinning really slow). This is normal. However you need to check your timng belt, because it is almost surely the culprit. I wouldnt drive the car until you have at least inspected the timing.

I disagree. Sometimes when I am going into first gear I will start slipping the clutch a little bit too much before I apply gas. This also happens when I am stopped facing downhill and I start the car out in 2nd gear from a little bit of a roll. The car almost stalls, but the oil light never comes on. Check your oil level just to make sure it's nice and full.

Hmmmm...ummm yeah good point. Yeah I definitely agree with what was said above, whenever I stall my car out it doesn't come on, now that I think about it. You've checked your oil level right? If you have the proper amount of oil in your engine, and the light is still coming on, then either your oil pressure sensor is going bad, or you need a new oil pump.

Not having good oil pressure is no good. Take it to the guy that did the work and check fluid levels as said above.
