I took my valve cover off to replace the gaskets and when i was done and started my car up again i noticed the water temp gauge wasn't working. anyone know the location of the sensor?

Look on your thermostat housing, there are two sensors on it, one is larger than the other. The biggest is the Coolant Temp Sensor(don't worry about it) the smaller one is the sender for your temp. gauge in the car. Look to see if the wires for it are exposed or laying on metal. I messed with mine one time and I looked and noticed my needle was just resting on the bottom peg. Turns out it was because the wires for it were laying across a metal power steering fluid pipe. If the wires are good, you may just need a new sender.

Thanks a lot, i just jiggled it a little and it revived the needle. the wires are all wrapped up so i cant see if its maybe touching any metal, but it seems very sensitve, i guess i'll just have to be careful with it.

Keep your eye on it while driving around... if it comes loose again and your car overheats you'll be in some deep trouble.

It sounds like there is a loose connection somewhere. It might be worth the time to carefully remove the wire loom and inspect the wires leading to the sensor, replacing as necessary.
