Has anyone ever seen a water pump pulley that has somehow gotten missaligned. The alternator belt in my new car with only 30k miles keeps throwing the belt off by one thread. I have taken my harmonic dampiner off and its all new (as it should be) but now i cant seem to figure out what is wrong. It usually flies off around 4k so i know something is thowing it off. Someone please help me out!!! thanks!!!

Ok I installed a new water pump in my car over the last weekend and now I'm having issues with destroying alt. belts. It looks like the pulley isn't aligned correctly. It seems to stick out to far and is causing belts to shread. The little power steering pulley lines up fine and I never had this problem before and I can't figure it out. If anyone has some ideas let me know, pictures of your engine bay from the top and bottom showing the pulley and belt would be helpful too.

If you're still on the stock crank pully, see if the rubber on it has seperated. They do that, and often cause damage to other belts (and anything else in the vicinity).

9 times outta 10 that seems to be the problem...

The crank pulley looked ok when I had it off. I think I just need to space the alt. out with a few washers and it should hopefully be fine.

Did you put one of the pulleys on backwards? I did that once and before I started it I looked down it it looked a bit off. I flipped the pulley around and everything lined up perfect.

I'm pretty sure the pulleys are in correctly. I took them off and looked at them today and if I switched them around (the big one) it was even further off. I dunno why it won't line up, but I think it'll be ok with a couple washers.

I have the same issue in my 97 gst spyder. I have spent so much time trying to figure this out. Replaced crank pulley. Its fine. Replaced alternator, was junk, but still used washers to push out the alternator pulley to align with water pump pulley. But then it was off from crank. AAAhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! Tomorrow I am pulling the water pump and turning the pulley around. I hope this works!!!!

I have the same issue...i tried putting the washers in the alternator pulley to even it with the water pump pulley but then it is still out of line with the crank pulley. It works a little bit but not when you open it up. It will come off. I am going to try and turn around my water pump pulley tomorrow because that is the only one i didnt replace myself!!!

let ya know.

Are you all talking about the water pump ( alternator and power steering pump ) pulleys? If so, the small one sits inside the larger one and is offset. There are 5 holes in the pulleys, 4 for the mounting holes and one as a guide hole. Just align them up together when you put them on.
