Thanks for looking. I've been reading on the forums all week and haven't found an answer. With DSMers being known as some of the most broke and thus inventive enthusiasts around, I was hoping you guys would know of a hack I could use to fix this in the spirit of the Home Depot tradition ROFL Now for my problem... I have cracks all around the wastegate hole on my 14B. They're small but from what I've read it sounds like enough to affect spool time. My car doesn't pull strong until 3500RPMs, which is about 500 RPMs shy of what I read it should be. I've pretty much pinpointed the wastegate cracks as the only leaks I have, and I have a 2G manifold, new gaskets all around, and a ported o2 housing on it so I know the flow is fine.

Please don't flame me, I know I could take the turbo off and get it TIG welded for $10 but that would be a PITA because when we put the 14B on this automatic car it took forever, the resulting leaks sucked, and I'd rather not repeat that nightmare anytime soon until it's 16G time. I don't want to buy a TIG welder right now and do it myself on the car since they all seem to be over a grand, so is there a cheap alternative I could use to weld these up myself with the turbo on the car? I have seen the Bernz-o-Matic oxyacetelyne kits at Home Depot for cheap, could I use something like that then sand down the excess? How about a larger flapper to cover these cracks and maybe help prevent creep later by leaving the cracks alone? If not, what about some of those cold weld kits? I know JB Weld is out because it only holds up to 500F, but what about something like hi temp Permatex with a 2000°F rating? It's supposedly a ceramic filler.

Thanks for your input. :dsm: :talon:

sorry to bring you bad news but you will never fix it on the car.that metal is pot metal and in order to fix it you will have to heat the metal to operating temp and then weld it and then cool it down at the same temp which requires a kiln to do it.you will be better off buying new.sorry.

Thanks for the reply. I guess now I have a reason to buy an E316G:cool: Only problem I don't think I can swing it for a while, I will be tapped out once I finish ordering all the supporting mods I need to complete stage 1 and be ready for stage 2 unless I skip the FMIC. I guess it's not too bad though, at least I don't have the 13G on there anymore :)
