I was changing my door hinges today because my door drops like and 1/8th of an inch, so the latch won't line up right. In the process I found out that it wasnt the hinge that was bad. I have a crack where the bottom bolt of the bottom hinge bolts to the body. Is their a way to fix it, it looks like some one tried to weld in a plate but the plate is cracked also. I will try to take a pic with the fender on I forgot to take one while I had it off. I did kind of jimmy a temp fix with a washer between the hinge and the body where their is a small gap. it doesnt drop nearly as far for now, but I dont know how long it will last. I have only tack welded once so im not that good at welding. But this will be a good experience for me I just dont no what to do.

Ok so I tried to take a pic with the door open but couldn't get it. Also the washer fell out and its more like a 1/4 of an inch that the door drops. I have an idea let me know how it sounds. The bottom door hinge has 3 holes but only 2 bolts. The thrid hole that is kind of by it self has a little gap between the body and if I put that washer their it stops the hinge from moving and letting the door drop. So if I were to weld in a little piece of metel their would that be ok. I just dont want the crack to get bigger.

I would say that the only thing you could do is weld it back up. If you do not feel comfortable doing it take it to a shop and it shouldn't be more than $50.

If you could get a picture I could better assist you in assesing the weld job. Although I would say in any case you may be better off taking it to the shop if you do not feel confident.

Sheet metal can be very tricky to weld on. You can make the problem worse if your welder isnt set up just right. Cant let it get to hot either. Dobt wanna make the crack bigger than it already is.

It shouldnt be to hard of a fix, depending on where it is exactly, any pics would help over none. bracing and tack or bead welding a small steel plate behind it will probably be your best option (you should practice on something else first). i couldnt tell exactly where you were describing, the door or the door's body mount, if its the body you'll need to carefully remover the quarter panel, and for the door, remover all flamable items (i.e. plastic, insulation, etc.)

however, if you're not confident in welding, i suggest taking it to someone else. like Josh2g and SupremeDsm said, its better to be sure its done right than make a bigger mess than you already have.

Good Luck!
