I got a big 16g turbo and put it in. all it good, but i had reall bad spikes to 20lbs. i checked it out and ended up having a split vacume line. i replaced it and only had 8-10 lbs. so i bypassed the bcs and only got 6-8 lbs. i noticed some weird dented parts on the waste gate. think that could be it, or should i just invest in a mbc.??

thanks in advance for any help..

Ya, get a mbc. They're cheap and can fix a lot of problems.

No ebay is a hit or miss.

The only problems you will have is destroying your motor you both dont know what you are talking about.

Turning the boost up and not having the mods or knowledge = you replacing or rebuilding your motor.

Post pics of your wastegate, 7-8 is a stock 2g wastegate, 8-10 is 14b 1gmanual, if you dont have a decent mbc you will get 8-10.

The spiking to 20 is boost creep, search there a alot of topics on this

Who said anything about eBay? You're right, though, I should have addressed the OP's question with a little more depth. I guess that's the problem when you forum-whore at work :notgood:

OP, can you clarify your issue and your intent to fix the boost and why?

You only got 8psi off the wastegate? What's wrong with that? That's about what the spring pressure is when you factor in the pressure drop across the intercooler and piping. Doesn't sound like anything is wrong.

There is no way there is that much pressure drop unless he has some sort of boost leak, or the most inefficient intercooler known to man.

if the 16g's have about a 8.5 lb spring in them, then everything is good. Thats what i am pushing. spool up goes to 8-9 lbs(there by 3200-3300 rpms EVERYTIME) and holds it all the way up through the rpms.!!

The only reason i was questioning the stock 16g boost pressure was because(as stated in the origional post) i had a split vacume line between the wastegate and the j-pipe nipple. so the wastegate was opening WAYY too late!! but now i know what 16-18 lbs feels like with the 16G and i do believe i am ADDICTED!!! :shhh: when i fixed the vacume line, i was only seeing 8-9 lbs., and compared to the 16-18 i was *mistakeingly* getting, it feels retarted.

i dont want 16-18 yet, as i only have a stock rewired fuel pump and semi hard intercooler pipes. (been a while since i updated the profile) but i would like to see 12-14lbs untill i do the fuel upgrades.

i am planning ECU+ within the next couple months, along with 680s, a 190 or 255 fuel pump(haven't decided yet), and full hard piping with a FMIC. im currently working on a 'carputer' type setup for the ECU+, but i may put it on hold since i dont have to have it to tune,(i can just use a buddys laptop to tune and do the carputer later) and i dont like only having 8-9lbs.

Contrary to belief, when you have a boost leak, you do not lose 'boost'.

I.e., (purely numbers for example), let's say at 20 psi you flow 500 CFM and if you have a boost leak bad enough and you 'lose' 10 psi, you're turbo needs to work TWICE as hard to achieve that same amount of boost. So in essence, you're boost gauge will never tell you that you have a boost leak, only a boost leak test can do that.
