alright just thought i'de start by saying hi! I just bought a 95 gsx on tuesday and so far its pretty fun! (needs some work tho)

but i noticed on the door panel by the VIN info it had a label that says"Caution this vehicle is equipped with a viscous coupling type LSD in the rear axle NEVER stgart the engine or rotate any raised wheel while your vehicle is supported by a jack"

Im just curious as to why this is? and what happens if you do?

Thanks in advance!!!

The rear end in that car has an LSD (Limited Slip Differential) Which means that the wheels will only spin so much faster than the others before they lock and cannot continue. This is a good thing for traction and launching. This also means that you cannot expect to do something like a Donut. If you jack the car up and spin the rear driver wheel, the others will spin accordingly, and vise versa. Also, you are incapable of towing the car by lifting the front wheels off of the ground and leave the back rolling.

Do a quick search on "How Limited Slip Differentials" Work, even on google, and you will learn.

For reference, all AWD DSMs with an LSD have that sticker.

thats what i was assuming as well..but i've learned from assumptions haha...i'm thinking it might just be a precaution so that the wheels that aren't jacked don't take off and tilt your jack over...but if you have all 4 tires lifted it shouldn't matter?

You can jack up the front or rear or sides individually, but don't expect to turn the tires like this as the others will try to turn and could potentially cause the car to fall from the jacks. If you have all wheels elevated, though, you're good.
