Just for the record, you're going to get screwed if you use anything other than the "alternative method for weigh reduction" as far as those points go. My car is almost entirely stripped (other than the dash) and still only takes a few points because it is only about 150lbs lighter right now.

Agreed. I wonder if that's where you guys are taking all these points. 108? WTF

Yeah... I'm confused. When I run the numbers on the mods my car has/will have in the next year, I get about 79 points. This is with a stroker, FP green, full intake/exhaust/fuel/DSMLINk/stripped/DOT-R 255 wide tires etc... I'd be set... if the rules weren't all going to change and bump me up a class or two!

Oh, and for the record, someone in a previous thread said that coilovers like Hotbits/JICs did not take the full points for suspension (12)... they do. 750$ is not a per corner figure!

The JICs wont, but depending on which Hotbits setup you might.

NASA Classifier said:
Any monotube, gas-charged shocks with aluminum body construction, removable body caps, a replacement shaft, or adjustment of any nature (preload or bleed) through the shaft; or, any shocks with an external reservoir or more than two ranges of adjustment. Also, any shocks/Coilovers with a retail price of greater than $750 each. (springs and perches are free)

Here are some clarifications that have been made by NASA TT Administration when competitors have had questions about the rules. These clarifications qualify as "Technical Bulletins" under section 6.1 of the rules, and should be treated as if they were written directly into the rules.

Clarification--Gas Shocks: Simple street sport, off the shelf, replacement coilovers (even if they are gas charged and have a rebound adjustment--like some Tokico, Koni, Tein, and other non-race shocks) are not to be charged +12 points (they would fall into the +7 range). Race shocks (all basically), do fall into the +12 category. The intent of this rule is to capture race shocks and custom built shocks in the +12 category, but allow retail "street" version coilovers to fall under the +7 or +5 category. If you have a question as to which category your shocks fall under, please consult your TT Director or the National TT Director. A simple initial screening tool would be for you to look at the retail price of your shocks. Those costing more than $500 each will generally fall under the +12 category, although this may not be true all of the time, and some shocks that cost less do fall under the +12 rule.

Yeah I just saw that as well after doing a little searching. I have to ASSume that the JICs from Mueller would fall into the "race" category, even though I'm not really sure that he alters them. (but I don't think you know either, as he seems very secretive about such information) In the same manner, if you have bilstiens (non adjustable performance shock) revalved for your application does this become a race shock? They would fall well under the 500$ rule.

I THINK that I'm okay taking 12 with the Hotbits. They have a resevoir, I'm having them "custome valved" and they are double adjustable. They are still an "off the shelf part" with the exception of the digressive valving, which isn't specific to my car neccesarily, just a better response curve. I think I'd rather take the 12 up front and get an exception for fewer points than to plan on the points being free, and get screwed over upon scrutineering.

Muellerized JIC's just come with the spring rates, spring height, camber angles, and adjustment knobs adjusted.

As far as I know there are no actual internal modifications done to the shocks. Not to say it can't be done, but I would be leary to go to those lenghts without having them at least mounted on the car before repacking them.
