I bougth walbro 255 since I got a good deal on it and I know that I will need one eventaully. I am debating if I install it now will it have negative affects on my car or will I get any benefits with the mods that I have now. all my mods are in my profile, but I don't have the air\fuel guage anymore. And yes I am venting with my BOV as of now. i am not sure if my car will run way overally rich since I don't have a fuel pressure pregulator.
Please help!

Yes, if you install that now, it will have negative effects w/o a regulator. Do not put that fuel pump in until you have a regulator. Regulators run $100 - $150. I have that pump w/ a AEM reg. and it's a really good set-up. I recomend buying a regulator and installed the two together.

Totally untrue that it will always cause problems. Each car is diffrent.

I have a 91 TSI with a Walbro 255, NO AFPR and my car idles at 750 rpm with the idle o2 trim right around 100~105%...

Totally smooth idle. Infact I've decided not to get a AFPR as my idle is fine and I'm boosting 20psi with no issues.

My friends 92 thats running 12.5 in the quarter has a Walbro 255, no idle issues, idle o2 trims right around 100% too.

My other friend has a 98 GSX, Walbro 255, has a aeromotive AFPR but never installed it because his car ran fine with the Walbro too...

Everyone keeps saying o if you install a Walbro 255, the can will run poor, have rough idle and be rich at idle.. I have yet to personally see this problem. Not saying it doesnt happen but hey I sure havent seen it yet.

Its one of those things where you wont know unless you try. Might not affect you.

Very true but why half ass it???? Even if my fuel trims were the same as stock I would liek one to help in tunning and general driving conditions. Its your money and car do what you have the funds for. Liek he said some have problems some dont.

You're running 20lbs. on stock injectors?? Ouch! Have you ever checked your injector duty cycle?? From what I understand, stock 1G injectors usually max out at around 17-18 PSI, which would mean you have a good idle but are running lean at WOT. Have you ever checked that?

From my experience, I installed a walbro 255 w/o a regulator and I was running pig rich. Mostly at anything over half throttle. The car started, idled, ran, and drove fine, but I was getting like 12 mpg, loosing HP and fouling plugs every 1000 miles. I could pop an exhaust flame on command and thats with stock boost on a T25. I bought a regulator and have been fine ever since.

kristmen - What fuel pressure are you running at? With the 255 on my car, my fuel pressure bumped up to 56. (which is way too high) When I installed the regulator and turned it back down, my car was faster and more fuel efficent.

No I never said I had stock injectors. I said I didnt have a AFPR.

Altho I did use my Walbro 255 at 16 psi with stock injectors for a long time. No issues there eather.

I have 650's, a MAFT blowthrew and a AFC2 also.

I suppose to each their own, but my base fuel pressure is around 46 psi with my 255 in and no regulator. The car doesnt feel right at partial throttle. my idle is a bit rough as well.

I've had a Walbro for a few months now and also had to buy an AFPR because I was running ungodly rich. Like everyone said, some people can get away without one, some can't. Just be prepared to buy an AFPR if you do run into problems

i bet your trims on the afc are pretty wild compared to where they would be with an afpr. if you want to do it right, get one. its established that they are not required, but for the price, and the better tune possible with them.. why not?

So, you never answered my question...... What fuel pressure are you running? Theres absolutely no sense in getting a MAFT translator and a AFC2 when your fuel pressure is running wild at a possible 20+ PSI over what it should be....

Yes if you go with an Aeromotive or other universal AFPR then you will need to get AN adapters and some braided line. It will end up being around the same price as this piece that is a true bolt on.

This is from Buschur and is what I will be getting soon.

Look about half way down.

Well you do not NEED to go with braided lines and AN fittings. Go get yourself a SARD fpr. It uses barbed fittings instead of AN fittings. Then you just go buy some high pressure fuel line and high pressure clamps and a gauge and set it up like that. Install will be 10 times easier since you don't have to deal with making your own braided lines, and it will cost much much less. DSMJIM on here has a nice little write up in his gallery, and on his webpage on how he did it if you are interested. He says it's working great for him, so I'm going to do the same and hope for the same results.
