I either have a weird pump or I'm a fuggin retard. I went to install my walbro 190lph in my 98 TSI AWD and it turns out I can't figure out how to get this thing in there. The filter is pointing the opposite way than the factory pump filter is. Therefore I can't put the bottom bracket on the pump since the filter is there. Can anyone tell me if their 190 pump looks like this with the plug and the filter facing the same way?

Both filters should point away from the fuel pump assembly...

The way the filter points matters more... you should be able to get it to fit correctly, even if the plug is on the wrong side. The pumps being different diameters should facilitate this.

Can you take a picture of how you're trying to position the pump in the bracket?

Are you sure you're using the included rubber isolator?

well I put the stock pump back in the car, but I'll draw you a pic of how it is.

now in the pic it looks like I could just turn the pump the other way and it would work. Not the case (sorry the pic isn't very accurate)

Well I definately have a weird pump. Mine is on the left, what I need is the one on the right. As you see there IS a difference between the two 190lph pumps.

It looks like you have a pump for the 1G's. I can't remember which part number is for which generation, but the two 190lph Walbro models are GSS250 and GSS278. Whichever one you have, you need the other one.

goto VFAQ and check there . They have a write up for 2G with pictures and you can see from there if its the right pump. Also i believe they have pics of a 1G pump also for you to compare , good luck
