Alright, ive been told multiple things but is a rewire for a 190 necessary? I heard the rewire is just to get more out of your stock fuel pump but im not sure can anyone clear this up for me and let me know if it should be rewired and if so what are the benefits of the rewire with my set up listed in my profile on top of what's in my wish list (aka the stuff i have that's not in the car yet)? Also what could happen if it needs to be rewired and i dont rewire it?

my plan... to run an efficient 20-24 psi on evo III 16g with denso 660's, aeromotive fpr, walbro fuel pump (190), and a SAFC 2...
 
any fuel pump you install will not run at it's full potential if you don't rewire it. Just like the one that came stock you can run any fuel pump without a rewire, you just won't be able to get the most out of it.

With the fuel your going to need to run that evo to 24 psi i would suggest rewiring for sure.

Did you buy the 190 already? I noticed you have an aeromotive fpr, if not you could get a 255 and not have to rewire it. Just a thaught
 
Yeah if you haven't already purchased the 190, just get the 255. They're basically in the same price range anyway.
 
255:190 no difference, rewire it. I agree, buy the 255 if you already have the FPR. Like stated above, you will not get the full potential out of the pump without rewiring it. It is not that difficult or expensive. Just do it. Walbro pump tend to whine alot and rewiring it quiets that down as well.:D
 
alright ill be doing that next weekend good instructions to follow... http://www.vfaq.com/index-main.html ??... is there anything there that is unnecessary? or should i follow those directions exactly how they are there?

oh and yea i already got the 190 i have heard a few people say that the 255 is pointless unless your trying to make shepard status... and that someone has made 500 some hp with the 190 so i just decided to get the 190...
 
Im trying to find a how to on installing it on a 2g awd, both the pump and rewire kit at the same time. vafaq is on a fwd and I know its slightly diff.
 
You could also try a VR4 fuel pump from a 3000gt. They flow almost as well as a 190lph and they can be had pretty cheaply. tstkL got one shipped for $40, and he's using it on his 90 tsi awd at ~20psi boost. Ask him about them.

I don't have one yet because I'm too dirt poor for even $40 and my GST is in the body shop after an accident, but I plan on putting one on as one of my next mods.

This is not recommended with with a 255. Been there done that, and you will want the rewire to be done, otherwise your fuel pump is really loud and it takes forever to get the car started.:nono:
 
I run 14-15 psi with a 190 walbro that is not rewired yet. No problems

I'm running 16 psi with the same Denso 660's and on a stock unrewired fuel pump. I don't have any problems, but I also do not drive the car hard right now due to this and other circumstances. The car however will knock above 6k due to boost creep and (my guess) the fuel pump not being able to keep up.

If your Evo III flows anything above 36 lbs/min at 20-24 psi (which by all means it should) then you will want to do the rewire without a doubt. There is math behind this to prove it, but basically a rewired 190 will flow 4 lbs/min of fuel at your boost range, allowing you to support approximately 44 lbs/min airflow at 11:1.
 
I would recommend running the same as you would if you didn't even have the pump--the stock injectors are what's limiting you. Thus, I would limp it around for the next 4 and a half days as just a precaution if nothing else.

If you would like the actual calculations... 450cc injectors x 4 = 1800 cc/min x .76g/cm^3 / 454g/lb= 3.01 lbs/min fuel. I don't see any fuel management on your mods list right now, so assuming you're on the stock fuel map and are at 10:1 you're looking at 30.1 lbs/min max airflow supportable. Needless to say your Evo III will far exceed this pretty easily.
 
well i just got done the walbro 190 pump with the rewiring... whatta bi***... i guess it was "easy" but not nearly as easy as i thought it was going to bed... the car feels like it actually runs better i dunno maybe im psycho but it definitely feels better... injectors regulator and safc install will be sometime this coming week
