I have seen this too often where used trans are advertised as rebuilt trans with evo this or gvr4 that. Then me going to see them and seeing the MMZL code on the trans.
Ok so I had an extra one of the MMZL trans code 2G AWD "JDM trans" from ebay, or your favorite engine importer, sitting in my garage. We knew these came out of the Mitsubishi RVR but the output gearing from the front to rear diff was unknown or shaky information at bust. I have done the "Jack's Transmission" 2G trans identifier where you spin the clutch 5 times and all that jazz and it does come back as the same as a late 2G trans.
So tonight I tore it apart and counted the teeth on the front differential and output shaft ring gear.
And the verdict is 57 teeth on the front diff and 15 teeth on the output shaft ring gear giving it the same tooth count as a late 2G trans (97-99).
Any questions? I am not a trans guru just a bored guy with a busted trans that could hopeful answer some questions.
