Visual Differances of GSX

There is a 95-99 (?) eclipse at a gas station close to my house. The underbody was grey and the car was green with a small stock wing. I thought it was a GSX..I was told that ONLY GSX's had the grey color underneath however after closer inspection it was a GST. My assumption was that maybe it was painted. Could someone please give me a link or verify my orignial thought that only the GSX came stock with the grey underside.

It is my understanding that all 95 turbo eclipses came with the 2-tone coloration, I have seen a few of both.

I don't believe it was just limited to GSX's....

If you still can see the car check the "GSX' badging in the back, take a peek under the car and look for some components that suggest thats its "AWD", get a VIN # and find a web site with a DSM VIN decoder and that will tell you, I'm not familiar with other features that a GSX would have over a GST besides listed above but do some searching and find out what a GSX has that a GST doesnt and vise versa and go look at the car again and compare... Ask to take a look at the owners manual? On the inside of the door theres a label, I'm pretty sure it might have the model and trim specification on there.... good luck

the most obvious difference is the rear axle has a nice phat thing in the middle, not sure if 2g's have that covered up (doubt it), but that's how 1gs are.

I think this is a good question because i know alot of ppl around here have 97-99 eclipes with the turbo spoiler and no badging so is there a way to tell then????

I did talk to the guy and he did say it was a GST that's why I was thinking maybe it was painted...we know another local kid who painted his underneath. Guess it was my bad and I was misinformed.

95-96 turbo models (gs-t gsx) came with the silver bottom trim, non-turbo models (rs gs)didn't. The high turbo spoilers only came on 97-99 eclipse gs-t's gsx's and the 98 10th anniversary OZ non turbo gs model eclipse.

theres a gs-t on base that has the black and grey on the bottom of hte car...i assume its both

There is no visual difference from the outside of 95-96 T's and X's. Both have the grey bottom, and both have the same swirly rims. See my sig pic, GS-T, grey bottom.

just look underneath the car and check for the rear differential


and yes, al turbo models from 95 have 2 tones

If you start to get really good you can pick apart the GST from a GSX just from ride height, at least when they are still on stock suspension. As mentioned before all turbo model Eclipses from 95-96 have the silver trim at the bottom. The actual name is Logan Silver Metallic. It's the easiest way to tell a turbo model from a NT on the 95-96 body style. For the 97-99 cars looking for 2 exhaust tips is a dead giveaway. If they don't have stock exhaust then the front brakes will give it away, 2 piston calipers denote a GSX while smaller rotors and single piton calipers mean a FWD.
