I recently purchased a 94 over here in Germany and am a bit confused with something. I noticed that when I ran the VIN number it came up as a 98. My first guess is that at some point the car was frankensteined since it is non turbo yet still retains the 4G63. I'm trying to figure out how I can tell the difference between the chassis and motor in year and if it will make a difference when installing aftermarket parts. Any info would be greatly appreciated

'94 - look for an "E" in the VIN. That'd be the letter for the NT. If it's an "F", be the letter for the Turbo.

Also, the letter before the "E000000" in the latter part of the VIN would be the year of the car. Thus, once again, if it's a '94, it should be an "R" - like "RE000001"

A 1994 Eclipse NT would be 4C3CS44ExRE0000001
A 1994 Eclipse Turbo would be 4C3CS44FxRE000001
A 1994 Eagle TSI would be 4E3CS44ExRE0000001
A 1994 Eagle AWD would be 4E3CT64FxRE0000001

..something here to help out with.

Thanks for the help, the VIN is: 4MBMND22ANE003610. I couldn't find it on Carfax and this concerns me as I am trying to ship it back to the states. I'm trying to avoid getting caught up with customs issues cause it has a 1G chassis and all.

vin will obviously be a bit different since it is in Germany.
Also what we would call a 90-91 is labeled as like a 94 there. Due to it being shipped over, then they marketed it in that year, so it got a later label date.

Just curious, were you there visiting and took it back with you, or did you find a middleman to send you the car?

I'm actually stationed over here but to answer the question about the title, it does match so I'm guessing it's just some strange little anomoly. Thanks for the help though all. And as far as shipping something over thats worth it? Believe me most of what people tune over here are opels, and i'm not really a fan of them. Besides tuning a Beamer or VR6 over here is rediculously expensive, and though parts are easy to come buy most Germans try to rip you off cause they think that GI's don't understand their economy. So be careful if you ever try to get a euro spec vehicle because more likely than not if it's a high end name you're bound to get robbed.
