VIN Lookup

I found a nice free online tool to lookup your VIN number. It's located here:

Now...can anyone tell me how to find out what these "Position" and "Raw Data" codes mean? I'm trying to find the build date of my car. The door-jam stickers are gone...

I now see that obviously the "Position" is the position of the digit in the VIN number. I still am clueless on what the "Raw Data" codes are.

Position is location of that particular # and raw data is the #. Ex-vin #- 4e3ct66u1ne009409
position is 4=1, e=2, 3=3, c=4, etc
Raw data is the actual #, 4=4, e=e, 3=3, c=c, t=t,etc,etc. Get it yet?

Yeah I understand that, I just don't know what the codes mean. Like what is "e"? It would be nice if it had a legend.

1st - Country of Origin
2nd - Manufacturer (Make)
3rd - Vehicle Type (passenger car, pickup, etc.)
4th - 8th - Vehicle rating information (Engine size, cylinders, carburetion, fuel type, wheel drive, tonnage, model, body style)
9th - Check Digit
10th - Model Year
11th - Plant
12th - 17th - Unique 6-digit serial number assigned to a vehicle as it leaves the assembly plant.
