So, you only installed the catback exhaust? Did you switch anything else? Did you remove anything and then reinstall it? Changing your exhaust shouldnt have had any effect on the car except flow of exhaust and sounds. Is your profile updated?

Yea its up-to-date...When i was putting my new catback on i broke the downstream O2 sensor...I drove the car up and down the driveway, 1/4mile...and by the time i got back up to the top it was acting like this...when i give it gas it would feel and sound like it just flooding it and then shut off. I replaced the o2 sensor the next day and still had the same problems...so i ordered some new spark plugs thinking that would help, but still nothing.

Bye the way...i hooked up the OBD2 computer to my car and got these codes:
P0110 IAT Sensor Malfunction
P0100 MAF/VAF Circuit Malfunction
P0115 Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit Malfunction
p0105 Baro/MAP Circuit Malfunciton

Just a suggestion but try resetting the ECU. Disconnect the battery for 20 mins or half hour to clear the check engine light.

in hopes of saving myself some money i took into a shop...i think while they're fixing whatever went wrong and if it's not a whole lot of money im going to have them replace all the belts and hoses as well..
do you guys think theres anything specific i should ask them to do or check out?
Its a 97 GST with 96,000 miles

Any1 think it might be the fuel filter?

ive never had this happen to me but my friends bought a 96? accord and ran fine for a few days then 1 morning he turns it on and the rpms are really low and jumping a bit then it would just cut off.

his dad was a mechanic and said replace the fuel filter he did and tada all fixed.

just a thought and its good to change it every now and much later again anyway LOL

I heard mention of 2 things I've run into before. Due to my COP setup cylinder #2 didn't fire for a while and I think because of how the ECU detects engine RPM (and your plugs firing) it makes the tach READ 200RPM but it's actually idling higher than that. (Mine would idle around 900 but read 200, you can tell by the tone of the engine)

So is one cylinder not firing? Also have you checked your MAF sensor plugin (as bling5tatus suggested)? Most cars won't run without them hooked up properly.

My mechanic gave me a call today and said that the part of my ecu that all those sensors/circuits are wired to isn't grounding properly causing my car to run like crap....he said i need to find a new ecu now....soo that kinda sucks, but i guess ill be looking for one...anyone know of any for sale? And also...is it easy to install a new ECU? if so, how?

Same thing happened to my ECU, as well as a friend of mine's 2G. One ground wire is the signal for most of the engine sensors. Give this a try. Do it with a scanner plugged into the port and look at your live data. For instance, your coolant temp should be -40 F if there's no ground signal. Tap into the black and white wire on the ECT sensor and run a wire to a good ground. Guarantee all of your sensors will come to life, because they're all run off of one ground wire split like 6 times. If you're not comfortable leaving that as a permanent fix, then replace the ECU, but myself and my friend have been running happily for just shy of 2 years now since the problem.

To add to speedlug,

Check the mas that it has power going to it, and going out of it.

I have seen cars with a dead mas run, but throw many codes for other sensors because power has to travel through the mas then onto other sensors?

If the mechnic says it a ecu and that doesnt fix it, dont pay a dime until he fixes it.

I dont want to sound that stupid...but where is the ECT sensor located? I'm pretty good with electronics so i wont have a problem grounding it at all, but i just need to find where it is

thought id let ya know i have that exact problem i took it to the dealership they were the only one around here that had a scanner. i put a new motor in my 91 talon and it ran like crap exactly how u explained well they told me all the same codes and that i need to reinstall my stock intake and hook up the mass airflow it would solve the prob so i did it and it seems to run worse now than when i took it in to them make sure you give them a dollar limit at shop to use on labor ive seen people have to pay $600 on labor and still not have their car running right.. good luck

bad sensor ground would be my guess. you are throwing alot of codes that all relate with a bad ground considering they all use the same grounding wire.

good luck

So you basically changed two things on the car: Exhaust, post cat o2 sensor. Then it started running like crap. One of these things must have caused it.

Check the o2 sensor wiring. Did you get an oem one or one of those "wire it yourself" universal ones?????? Those are kind of a pain to do the wiring on correctly.

Maybe try unplugging the post cat o2 sensor and see if it runs better. Also did you install the bracket that hold the downpipe to the engine block. If not you're more likely to pull exhaust apart when driving (causing exhaust leak)
Good luck.
