Actually I have...and it probably costs just as much, if not more than a real BOV.

If you're still using the MAS then venting to the atmosphere might not be the best option. It COULD give the ECU inaccurate readings. I would save myself the headache and attach the hose to the BOV.

well depending on how much you like your greddy BOV. You can always switch out to the turbo XS RFL. It has pack washers that make the spring tighter I guess you would say so that you can vent to the atmosphere with no problems or so I hear. I will be getting mine in a couple days and installing it and will post the outcome.

ya its the 'turbo sound maker' you set it to a specific rpm to make the 'psssssst' noise or you can manually do it.... it was 149.99$ in the back of import tuner! haha thats the amount i paid for my blitz bov =x

you have two options.
crappy daily driving on low boost, but great at the track
crappy track time, or great daily driver

id suggest a pms over a vpc on a dsm

I totally disagree with that, my 90 AWD is a daily driver, the VPC is the best. Set it and forget it, once its tuned you leave it alone and it takes car of itself, no hassle and a shitload easier to use than PMS, Haltech, Motec and the AFC. (although I believe AFC is good too). If I go to track, I adjust the gain knob to lean or richen it up with the race gas, simple as hell. Never any crappiness like you explain. My idle isnt like stock but its definitly nothing to complain about and I have HKS 264 Cams as well. You get to have NO MAS, adds power, tune your car, run bigger injectors, and best off all OPEN Blow off valve, along with having no MAS, the turbo gets a lot louder. What more could you ask for. Bad thing is you have to get them used now though, HKS has stopped making them for now... those fools.

just to throw in my two cents her, i currently vent to the atmosphere with an hks ssqv with no idle issues whatsoever. i'm sure i run rich between shifts, but so what. my car runs rich while boosting anyways. all this is done on a 16g running 19 psi.

This thread is so much more exciting than the usual 5 - 10 post variety. My first mod (and only atm) is the GReddy Type S. I've not had my DSM for more than 3 months, but I read as much of the FAQ as possible. The question that was said was answered in like the 2nd post. The MAS expects that air to be there. In terms of the loudness, that GReddy is loud enough as it is with everything else stock. Blasting someone off the line, IMHO is so much more respectable than "That sounds sooooo cool.." It's rice for your ears..

i agree...that sound u get when venting may be cool when your just cruisin and trying to scare people.
but with all that loss of power, u better not even think about racing that mustang gt....unless of course your heavily modded.

so if you vent to the atmosphere there is a greater chance u can spit flames correct? due to the incorrect air fuel mixture

some cars can vent to atmosphere w/o a vpc...i kno a couple of 2g friend with the hks that do, and i kno a couple of 1g's like mavisky and I who vent...im running jus a tad bit more rich but no big deal, mpg didn't really get affected too much either...no significant power loss also.. and the sound is dope  ..hehe

i still don't understand what's happening when people feel this "loss of power". so long as you're not shifting the bov is sealed and could care less whether its vented or not.

and fyi, when i shift at redline on my 16g i have no hesitation or stumbling. just the normal split second pause and then all the power i can handle all over again.

the worst case scenario that could happen is you'd burn up your cat, if you have one. i vent mine, i'm a tech, no cat, no real problems other that a waste of fuel, also, you'd lose the scavangeing effect of the returning air so you'd get a dirty mixture on the next cycle, you may lose like 10 hp (realistically) between shifts, if you can live with that, vent. just use a high spring setting so you don't get a vacuum leak and stall at idle, if it stays closed at 21 inches of vacuum, that'll do it. no big deal, better rich than lean...

I just UN-VENT my bov after 9 months of venting. It was mainly because of bad gas mileage, 200+ mi out of full tank! nothing bad other than that, so then i put the stocker intake back in place.

what i noticed was:
*the car doesn't nose dive as bad
*BOV is alot quiter, sounds pluffy soft :)
*boost is kept spooled between shifts
*smoother rumbling exhaust sound
*better gas mileage, but not much difference

all in all i like it, except that i miss that *Whooosshhh -- Tsseeww!!* to grab attention :D

Well it had been quiet for four days and then some jackass brought it back up. Who the hell was that? He likes video games and James Bond.

Good god...Can't we place two general "opinions" on the matter and then place a list of facts on one sticky closed thread? What else is their to discuss? It's like wiping your ass with a turd.

Yeah, that guy sux!! but video games and james bond do kick @ss.... :D

just my .02 cents..... i vent to the air with my 1g crushed BOV.... and my car runs perfect... no letting off after WOT stalls, no hesitating, just a loud ass WOOOOOOSH! trying crushing the spring on the BOV.... that will close the spring faster and not let air back into the BOV causing surge!
