vented bov and now car won't start

i took the return hose for the blow off valve off to make it louder then the car sputtered, stalled then shut off and now it won't start it cranks but it won't start i replaced the plugs any idea's on what to do
 
First off a 93 laser N/T does not have a BOV. Please update your profile.

Secondly. Reconnect your BOV. If that caused the problem it may well fix the problem. Even if your car ran with it off it would be a stupid idea. Spend some time reading over the site. Then come back and apologise for trying to break your car. :toobad:

Anyway

You said it cranks but doesn't start, so you should:

-Try reversing whatever you may have done that made it shut off like that.
-Check for obvious disconnected wires that may have come lose

If it doesn't help, then you may have a different problem other than just a BOV problem...

-Check for the MAF to be properly connected
-Check for spark
-Check for fuel
-Check for timing marks to be aligned

Did it do anything? still not starting?
let us know what else have you done to it...

well if you must know it isn't my car it's a friend of mine and it's a 1990 turbo talon and i'm sorry he didn't have the brains to read but i don't control the world, he said their's fuel and it's getting spark but i'll tell him to check everything else thanks to those who actually HELPED me and didn't flame me
 
So were you trying show your friend venting is cool? :p

If he's sure he has spark and fuel (not just at the rail but that injectors are opening), check and make sure the timing belt is still there. If so, line up the timing marks then perform a compression test. Also make sure he didn't accidentally disconnected the coolant temp sensor under the thermostate housing. All this is assuming your friend knows how to properly check for spark and fuel.

Oh yea, RECIRCULATE.
 
I didn't flame, I just answered your question in jack-ass mode. My advice is still the first place to start. Reconnect the BOV. Scold your friend and make sure he recirculates the BOV until he has a blow through setup.

If the car doesn't start after reconnecting the recirculation tube (and you might as well unhook the battery to clear any codes) then come back and ask again.


BTW, "I" usually signifies that you're the one doing this, not your friend. Just a note for future clarification. :thumb:


*edit* and if your friend wants a loud BOV tell him to get an open filter (or hack the can) and hardpipes. It will be plenty loud.
 
Hate to be obvious here, but make sure your friend plugged the intake return hose. If the hole there is not plugged, they are going to have major problems. Keep the original hose on that goes from the BOV to the Intake, and go to the hardware store and get a plastic plumbing cap the size of the interior of the hose, plug the hose on the BOV side and you should be good to go.
