There is a vent behind the panel in the trunk on the passengers side that goes out to the rear passengers wheel well. When I drive in rain, it flows into the trunk pretty good. What am I missing that it supposed to stop water from the wheel well to get up there?

pics? nobody is going to be able to tell you whats missing without seeing what you have. tkae pics from inside the car and pics looking into the wheelwell (preferably with the car jacked up so the wheel isnt in the way

True, I suppose how I should have phrased it, whats supposed to stop the water?

That thing is supposed to have a shutter type deal on it and a foam filter as far as i remember. I would suggest blocking it off if its leaking. My exhaust was getting into mine so i dynomatted mine over when i did my trunk. Just seal it up with something.

If its the shutter door thats supposed to let pressure out when you slam your door. You kinda dont want to complety block that. But to me it sounds like you mean the hole where there should be a tube running from the side of the hatch where it struts are at, down to the wheel. So water doesnt just sit in the strut area. Pics would be great.:thumb:

Thats for when you shut you doors it lets the pressure out so your windows dont shatter. but how to fix it....... maybe block the bad side with something?

Yeah, maybe saying shatter was a little extreme.:coy:

I dont mean that hole that goes to a tube that drains, I will pull the panelling off and take a pic tomorrow.

Heres some a pic. After looking at it in the pic, it looks like it just got raped by the previous owner (not the first messed up thing I've found  ) and now the flap thing cant shield it. I tried to bent it back but its plastic and doesnt really bend. Its like something was holding it in that position for a long time for it to hold there like that. How can I fix it?

I was just thinking, if I could get access to the side in the wheel well, I could just tape down that one flap.

Cut a peice of plastic or a peice of thin sheet metal and epoxy it over the bad area, not the whole thing.

haha, so your windows don't shatter? I don't think that's going to happen with the amount of force air exerts on them. have you ever leaned up against your windows?

Well, chances are your windows won't shatter unless it's -500F outside and hailing LOL. It does relieve pressure though. For instance, when you're driving down the highway and you close your sunroof or roll up the window, without that vent, you'll feel a slight pressure increase in your ears (the same as if you were traveling down a long steep hill). The pressure itself is harmless, but if the car is sealed up tight and at a higher pressure than outside, then getting proper ventilation is impossible, since you've essentially created a positive-pressure chamber OMG

yeah considering your speakers (subs) put out more pressure than the door closing and the flexing of panels is the only thing that cracks the windows when you have those blarring :)

I was looking into this a few weeks ago cuase mine was starting to rust ouyt. But now it also lets exhuast gases come in. So I'm stumped. If I close it off completely wont be good . So what if........... move it / relocate ?

Oh. Wait I have a sunroof and Ive noticed at times when I go over a bad pothole ot pops up. Also at times when I slam the doors hard. So that should be relieving pressure and stuff right ?

yeah that might be relieving pressure but it could also be just expanding a little and flexing but the pressure was not great enough to break the seal. There is a rubber grommet under the spare tire that is used to drain the trunk if water ever was to get in it... why not just remove that. No exhaust fumes will go in there, that would work out fine and its hidden under the car so nobody would know the difference.

old thread, back from the dead...

the part number of the vent is MB918156 & Duct,RR,Ventilation - cost about $35

i couldn't find it in caps so i called the $tealership.

mine was leaking around the top part and i got the new one, it's got a foam backing. i guess i could have just silicone'd it but i didn't know what was back there.

I still don't really know how to get it out, probably have to drop the bumper? but before i do that i'll take the fender well off.

justin0469 what'd you figure out?
