Alrighty, my engine is finally broken in after a very expensive rebuild, even the block itself with Ross pistons, and eagle rods, and I have a serious inquiry about my cams. When we first got the engine together and we had my HKS cams in, the engine ran. When we tried to start it again it wouldn't go because the valves weren't seating and the result was no compression. I didn't do a valve job as I didn't know at the time that the lifters and stuff weren't adjustable. So to compensate for this we trimmed the valvestems and, boom, 150 pounds as it's supposed to be. My engine now starts and runs quite well and has plenty of power with no boost leaks. Now I want to put my HKS cams back in, and I'm wondering if there's any chance of my cams f--king things up? The valves seat properly now as my engine starts with no hesitation, and my car is quite fast under boost, but would installing my HKS cams screw anything up? I have the standard 264/272 cams and I'm curious. Any advice will be considered with due attention. Thanks!

I can't wait to see you put those cams in there. But to answer your question you should be fine, the hks cams have bigger lobs on them so it causes the valves to open bigger and longer but the other side of the cam is the same size as the stock cams so the valve will close the same way as the stock ones if you know what I mean.:thumb:

Yeah I figure it'll be fine, I'm just a tad concerned cause we didn't go about the valves the usual way. Don't wanna get the damned things in and have a seating issue if you know what I mean:p

Ya youll be fine, first you should get your boost gauge in there :sneaky:

I'm trying dude, these things take time. Rich has a tool coming to do my cams so unfortunately I need to wait another week but it'll be done:p :laser:

The reason you had no compression to begin with is because you didnt bleed the lifters. With the lifters pumped up fully, they will hold the valves open until you bleed them or the bleed down themselves. Cutting the valve stems was just a bandaid to cure an improper job. When you install the cams, you will have to bleed the lifters the proper way. Check www.vfaq.com for the proper way of doing it.

he did this a while ago and what he was saying is that he did not do a valve job when he installed the new valves so instead of machiening the seats he machiened the valves which I have personally never hear of but I couldent see why it wouldent work.

From what I understood when I got my head rebuilt is that you have to machiene the seats to fit the new valves or they wont sit flat and you will loose compression.

Yeah I didn't have a valve job done. Now everything's working fine. We've got normal compression and the head has been apart since I had the valves trimmed since. So I know that bleeding the lifters wasn't the problem. The problem was that the valves weren't seating cause I didn't have the valve job done.

And dsmoverboosted has been in my car under WOT and it runs pretty well. Better than all the other cars that met up with us on Sunday anyways:D :thumb:
