Planning on doing mine too. I think the color of the car for main housing and then what ever secondary color your hoses and stuff are for the details.
I have a black car with red hoses and other internals so Im going to do mine all black with a red aluminium spark plug cover

This is a quick polish. You can take longer and do much better. Also was told chrome polish on aluminum makes it really shiny/polished.

Can't beat shaved and polished. I used nothing more than a grinder, various grit sandpaper, and Blue Magic metal polish.

Hey, i recommend powder coating, seems to last longer. And you can get some sick colors!

+1 Powdercoating.

Could go for some old school Paintball "Splash" look for something different. I'm not sure if that was something that was alot easier to do with anodizing though. If there's a will there's a way.

mine. looks alot better with the oem plug cover cleaned up and re painted black

^^ I can still see where it said "16 Valve" =P

It's due to the casting. The letters have a different direction grain than the rest. So no matter how smooth and polished the cover is, you will always see the lettering in certain light.

The same valve cover painted with "Metalcast" purple paint and high temp clear.

I too dig the shaved valve covers. I know its plain looking to some but I dont want a valve cover to draw all the attention. Although thats pretty hard with these motors because the valve cover is like a giant centerpiece.
