valve cover an size?

im planing on welding an fittings on my valve cover, i have 6an, 8an and 10an, at first i was planing on going with 10an, but my budy that is welding the fittings on the valve cover tolled me there was no need to have them that big i could get away with 6an.

well my question is can i get away with 6an?
also, if i weld them face up 6an, 8an or 10an with a 90* on them will i clear the hood?

i would test fit it my self but i have no motor in the car.

I will be running -10's, I think if you have them, why not run them? It will give you just that much more pressure relief. As far as welding straight up fittings with 90's, it won't fit. Forged 90's welded directly to the valve cover barely fit.

so how would you recomend me weld them on i was thinking side ways or on the side, but like it was side many times half will be in the baffle half out.

Do you already have the 90* weld in bungs? or are you welding a straight fitting in and putting a 90* hose end on it?
Reason I ask is, couldnt you just weld the fitting(s) horizontal with the valve cover? like this..

Just use the 6. 8 and 10 are so unneeded. And if you do, then your car is producing way to much pressure and blowing way to much oil. Plus, the 6 can be easily welded in the stock place and look clean. Whereas, the 8 and 10 can't.

well nothing is welded on yet, and i have looked at that image thats 8an bungs on that valve cover.

as my budy said he's got 6an on his race car and he said its plenty, hes making over 400hp.
the 6an are the same size as the stock ones, it would only make it cleaner, i just want to make sure i dont have to change it down the road, im only planing on making 450+.

You will be fine. The 6 is plenty. You only need 6 for feed the motor for fuel. I hope you dont need more than that to blow out oil from it.

this is just a 1st grade pic i did when trying to figer out wich way to weld the 10an.
so ill be fine with 6an even if i make more then 500hp?

Do you know how many cars dont do that and are fine? I plan on running stock size lines to a box/filter. I hope my car isnt blowing that much!

And from looking at hundreds on engines, #1 seems to be the most popular.

If you weld the fittings straight up and try to use a 90* fitting, there is no way it will fit.

Please go find me a picture of this, and I'll stand corrected. There is absolutely no way it will fit with actual 90 degree swivel fittings sticking up.

Nothing to be sorry about, I was just pretty sure it couldn't be done, and didn't want anybody to mess up a valve cover before they figured it out. There is a way to do -10's above the baffle, you just have to make "hoods" over them.

thankx guys i have not seen it eather, i really would like to have them sticking up with 90*
but it doesnt sound like its worth it for the trouble, or even needed but i have no seen or hered any one doing smaller then 8an.

you guys might say im wrong but i have -10 fittings and i removed my baffles and i have never had a problem or even a drop off oil in my catch can! maybe some residue but no more than that!

welll thankx guys , i went and got the 6an welded on, ill post images monday or tuesday.

im upset about it, becouse the valve cover is powder coated white and now i have to get it retouched.

I've got -10 An fittings tapped into mine, forget welding that. I just got a tap, and a drill bit, and went to town then put some thread sealant on them, and had them powder coat them.
