Vacuum lines... spring clips or zip ties.

On the 4g63T's most of the vacuum lines, that also see boost, have metal clips to keep them from blowing off... I've seen several people remove these clips and use zip ties instead.

Are the clips inadequate or is this just an alternate way of doing the same thing? I have metal clips on all my lines and a good stash of spares. Should I consider replacing them?

It doesnt really matter which you use. Mostly just personal preference. Hell I didnt have any one for a while and never had any boost leaks.. However that was a smaller turbo set up and a lot less boost. Now Ive got zip ties just because they were cheap and a buddy who was helping me up the car together insisted I put them on. ha!

Zip ties pretty much hold just as tight as those metal clips, but some people think they look a little "ghetto" sometimes I myself, dont mind a little ghetto fab every once in a while!

Only issue with zipties is that the heat can make them brittle and then they break off. I would use spring clips if you can get your hands on them but zip ties will work

IMO clamps look better then a bunch of zip ties but they do the same job.

If you've got that many stashed clamps I'd say keep on using them

I would think zip ties would be hard to remove if you needed to. And I've seen them dry out and crack. Although I also hate spring clips just because I always manage to scrape fingers on them. IF I had to choose I would say spring clips, or really small hose clamps.

+1 for spring clips. Cleaner looks, easier removal, longer life span.

Personally, I hate zip ties for hoses because I awlays end up having to cut them off, and usually cut into the hose itself, which could be problematic on the side of the road.

zip ties are fast and easy. but like most things fast and easy, its probably not the best long term idea
